Crunchyroll is the go-to streaming platform for plenty of anime fans. It’s home to a myriad of different anime, from seasonal titles to old classics. But just as Netflix or Prime Video will constantly shuffle around their catalogs due to changes in streaming rights, so does Crunchyroll.

Sadly for fans of Claymore, it looks like that’s exactly what happened. Anime fans recently noticed that the series is no longer part of Crunchyroll’s catalog, and with no other streaming service offering the series, it looks like there’s no way to stream this classic 2000s anime.

Claymore’s Removal Comes With No Warning

Most viewers expect a streaming service to announce when a series or film will be leaving its catalog. Though not always the case, it’s common for a platform to let fans know via social media. But with no word from Crunchyroll on why this has happened, fans are feeling left in the dark.

Claymore is one of the most iconic anime of the mid-2000s. The popular dark fantasy series only got one season during its run, but that was enough to draw in fans for years to come. The series was initially made available via the Funimation Channel in 2010 and was also available to stream on Netflix until it was removed in 2012. Crunchyroll has been the only place to stream the series for a while, so this is a disappointing development for fans and those interested in checking it out.

The radio silence on Crunchyroll’s end has fans wondering why such a popular series would be removed from the streaming service. It could be something as simple as the streaming rights expiring and Crunchyroll choosing not to renew. That’s the most straightforward and often the most common reason why certain anime are seemingly “removed” from different platforms.

Seeing an anime leave a platform isn’t anything new. It’s part of the experience when using streaming services. This leaves viewers in a tough spot. As convenient as streaming is, viewers don’t own any of what is made available to them. If you want to have series like Claymore available to you at all times, buying physical copies of home media releases is still the best way to go about that.

Streaming rights are always subject to change, and aside from a few exceptions, it’s likely that your favorite shows will keep being shuffled around on various platforms. Though there’s never any guarantee that a series will make it onto another streaming service after being removed from another.

While some fans might not be happy about it, this kind of thing has and will continue to happen. For as many new titles as Crunchyroll adds each season, there are bound to be some that leave the platform. This shouldn’t affect other popular titles Crunchyroll offers, but it’s a good reminder to watch anything you have your eye on while it’s still available to you.
