In a recent trailer, Cult of the Lamb shows off the content that has arrived as part of the game's limited-time Blood Moon Festival Halloween event. Cult of the Lamb players will be able to unlock a variety of Halloween-themed rewards like follower forms and decorations by performing the Blood Moon Ritual.

Indie hit Cult of the Lamb earned positive reviews from critics and players when it was first released in August thanks to an interesting combination of gameplay elements and its cute-yet-terrifying art style. Players take on the role of a sacrificial lamb that has escaped from doom and embarked on a quest for revenge, gathering a cult of loyal and lovable animal followers to do their bidding. Part Animal Crossing-style village sim and part Hades-style roguelike action RPG, Cult of the Lamb has attracted a wide range of players with its variety of game mechanics.

Cult of the Lamb's Blood Moon Festival is both the game's first seasonal event and its first round of new content since its release. From October 24 to November 10, players can work toward a handful of festive rewards to celebrate the occasion. Players can partake in a new ritual, the Blood Moon Ritual, which allows players to see and capture the ghosts of deceased followers. Capturing more of these ghosts will lead to more rewards being unlocked, including three new follower forms: the Cursed Crow, the Skeletal Deer, and the Bat Demon. New decorations like the Blood Moon Tree and flowered skulls can also be unlocked for the duration of the event.

Cult of the Lamb developer Massive Monster has also revealed that a major content update is in the works, which "will focus on combat and expanding dungeon gameplay." The update will be free for all players and should expand on the depth of the game's roguelike portion, hopefully bringing in a wider range of weapons and upgrades to diversify the randomized dungeon encounters. Various other fixes and game improvements are also in the works for PC and other platforms.

Since customization of followers and buildings is a major part of the game, a new event adding seasonal options is a welcome addition and sets a precedent for the game's future updates. Now that Cult of the Lamb has joined other games with Halloween events, it will be interesting to see what other holiday celebrations make it into the game over the next year.

Cult of the Lamb is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
