Cyberpunk 2077 proves to be the gift that keeps on giving, as developer CD Projekt Red continues to bring players updates that make the dystopian RPG that much stronger. From its rocky launch to now being one of the most popular RPGs around, Cyberpunk 2077 has evolved in a variety of exciting ways in the past five years.

For a while, though, it seemed as though CD Projekt Red had stepped away from the game, and for good reason. Development on The WItcher 4 is well underway, so it was completely understandable to assume that Cyberpunk 2077 would no longer receive updates. However, CDPR surprised players with the 2.3 update that launched last month. Update 2.3 added great features like Auto Drive, four new vehicles, and an improved photo mode. This has led some fans to speculate that more updates are on the way, but it's still quite possible that 2.3 is the end of Cyberpunk 2077's post-launch life. If this is the case, then CDPR is missing a huge opportunity to close out its Cyberpunk 2077 chapter in a cheeky way.

Playing Around With the Cyberpunk 2077 Name

With the game being set in the year 2077, ending its post-launch support on update 2.7 could be a fun reference to Cyberpunk 2077's title and setting. There are already plenty of theories about what a 2.4 update could have in store, but only time will tell if more content gets added to the vibrant, crime-filled world of Night City.

If CDPR intends to bring a 2.4 update to Cyberpunk 2077, it only makes sense for the developer to push even further, and a 2.7 update would be the perfect final patch to bring forth the game's final dose of content. There is already a lot of hope that a hypothetical 2.4 would add a third-person option, but CDPR has claimed that there aren't any plans to bring that perspective to Cyberpunk 2077, at least for now.

Pre-production on Cyberpunk 2077's sequel, currently codenamed Project Orion, began earlier this year.

What Could Be Included in Other Cyberpunk 2077 Updates?

While nothing has been confirmed just yet, ever since 2.3 dropped, ads for a casino have been seen around Night City. This is the North Oak Casino & Country Club, and while players can't go to it, the building is visible in the distance. With the new influx of ads promoting the currently-unreachable casino, some have speculated that these are breadcrumbs being left by CDPR to tease an upcoming update or DLC.

Update 2.3 added great features like Auto Drive, four new vehicles, and an improved photo mode.

The addition of a casino would be huge, and if that's the case for 2.4, the following updates could be smaller until 2.7 arrives with a bang. A 2.7 update could also be the perfect way to introduce third-person. Players have been requesting this feature for years, and if CDPR wanted to truly end Cyberpunk 2077's support on a high note, making third-person the last update would be huge. Of course, this is merely speculation, but it would definitely be a strong finale.

Future updates also open the door for Cyberpunk 2077 to get more dynamic romance options.

Cyberpunk 2077's Future is Currently a Huge Mystery

Now that CDPR is focusing mostly on The Witcher 4, there's no telling what the future of Cyberpunk 2077 holds. A few more updates would be thrilling, but this may also be wishful thinking at this point. Only time will tell, but if CDPR keeps introducing new content, using a potential 2.7 update as a meaningful stopping point could be both exciting and bittersweet.
