Summary
- The upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 sequel may be titled Cyberpunk 2, according to a recent job listing.
- Currently, the game is known by its codename Project Orion.
- However, it's likely that the title for Cyberpunk 2 isn't actually finalized yet.
It seems as though Project Orion, the currently untitled sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, may simply be called Cyberpunk 2. Cyberpunk 2077 had an infamously terrible launch in 2020, but CD Projekt Red worked hard to improve the experience to the point where the game is now looked at as one of the best action-RPGs of all time.
Cyberpunk 2077 and its Phantom Liberty expansion have earned widespread critical acclaim in the years since the base game's disastrous launch, and many fans are excited to see what's next for the franchise. Luckily, CD Projekt Red has confirmed that a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel is in development under the codename Project Orion. There aren't many other details about the project at this time, but it seems that its title might have been revealed.
Cyberpunk 2077 Nintendo Switch 2 Version Has Unique Joy-Con Feature
CDPR hints at a unique Joy-Con feature that Cyberpunk 2077 will offer on the Switch 2, in addition to sharing more details about the upcoming port.
CD Projekt Red has been hiring for the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel for quite some time, with job listings all referring to the game as Project Orion. However, a more recent job listing for a Producer role calls the game Cyberpunk 2 instead. It's also worth pointing out that CD Projekt Red recently filed a trademark for the Cyberpunk logo without "2077." As many fans likely assumed, it seems the "2077" may be dropped from the title for future Cyberpunk games, opening the door for the sequel to be called Cyberpunk 2 or something else entirely. Of course, it's possible that Cyberpunk 2 is simply a placeholder name, and so fans should keep that in mind. Still, it's interesting that it's being referred to as Cyberpunk 2 now instead of Project Orion.
Project Orion Job Listing Calls the Game Cyberpunk 2
The Cyberpunk 2077 sequel is likely years away from release, and so there's a chance that a name for the game hasn't even been settled on yet. CD Projekt Red has a lot of irons in the fire right now, with the studio's main focus currently being The Witcher 4. The Witcher 4 will star Ciri as the main protagonist and is expected to launch within the next few years. The Cyberpunk sequel will come at some point after that, but there are plenty of other CD Projekt Red games for fans to look forward to.
Besides The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2, there's also a new Witcher multiplayer game called Project Sirius in the works, a brand-new IP in development, a Witcher 1 remake built with Unreal Engine 5, and a collaboration with Scopely on a game based on an existing franchise. So while the wait for more concrete information on Cyberpunk 2 may be a long one, at least there will be plenty of other CD Projekt Red content to check out in the years ahead.
