Despite its rocky start, Cyberpunk 2077 remains one of the more well-received open world games of recent times courtesy of the folks who brought Geralt of Rivia’s adventures to life. Rather than adapting another fantasy novel, CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 is a sequel adaptation of the Cyberpunk TTRPG, bringing to modern consoles the futuristic dystopia of Night City and the role newcomer V has in shaping its future.
And for fans who want a more chill approach in their Night City exploits, V is always available for solo or mercenary work. Such is the case of Big In Japan, one of the more interesting side quests the game has in store for players who want to establish their reputation as one of Night City’s more reliable errand workers.
What Is Big In Japan?
Compared to the story-heavy missions in Cyberpunk 2077 gameplay, “Big In Japan” serves as one of the more self-contained Side Jobs in Night City. Before players venture further into the Side Job’s core story, here are some more specific information attached to the Side Job:
- Mission Type: Side Job, wherein the mission isn’t necessarily relevant to the main plot
- NPC: Dennis Cranmer, a customer in Afterlife
- General Area: Little China, Watson
- Locations Involved: Afterlife, Kabuki, Northside
- Rewards: ECU990, Scalpel (Iconic Weapon)
Starting The Story: Going To Afterlife
In order to begin “Big In Japan,” players need to be in Act 2 of their Cyberpunk 2077 storyline before being eligible for this quest. They need to go to Afterlife, the club often frequented by mercenaries, and talk to the enigmatic Dennis Cranmer in order to start this quest.
According to Dennis, he’s looking for a Solo (mercenary-for-hire) to do a particular job for him but wanted to give the specifics to the person involved and not use a Fixer (middle-man, information broker) in solving his ordeal. He doesn’t give specifics to V, except in that they have to go to Kabuki in order to retrieve the contents of a marked fridge.
The Meaty Package: Going To Kabuki
When players make their way to the outskirts of Kabuki in the world of Cyberpunk 2077, going to a certain slum will mark their mini-maps yellow, indicating they have reached the quest area. Players need to look for a fridge with “No Future” marked in it, which should be around the building closest to the water. The fridge itself is rather noticeable considering its size compared to other boxes in the area.
When players open the fridge, they’d be surprised to see a man inside coupled with an instruction to call Dennis. After calling Dennis, the man will give instructions to take this man to Northside while avoiding Tyger Claws sent to kill him. And as luck would have it, Tyger Claws are stationed just along the slums. Players have to deal with the Tyger Claws but also maintain the mans’ survival.
Route 1: The Action Hero
The first option players have when dealing with the Tyger Claws would be leaving the man in the building where they’ve seen him and to fight the Cyberpunk 2077 enemies head-on. The risk element here would be ensuring the package isn’t compromised or damaged. Thankfully, there should be more than enough sources of cover so players won’t be as overwhelmed in the conflict.
An ideal loadout here would be a Cyberpunk 2077 Handgun for emergencies in close range and Rifles that can accommodate mid-to-long-range incursions. Going on melee can be rather dangerous given the number of enemies rushing to kill V and to capture the package.
Route 2: The Escort Mission
The second option players have against the Tyger Claws faction in Cyberpunk 2077 would be going for a longer route around them. While carrying the body, players can tour around the slums and kill the Tyger Claws via stealth one by one. That way, players don’t rouse as much suspicion and they’re able to move knowing the body is always with them.
This process should go on until they reach a staircase with two Tyger Claws guarding them, forcing V to improvise dealing with them. While distractions can cause them to move, this does mean they will rotate around the map and prompt one last batch of stealth kills from players.
The Final Ride: Going Northside
Once players have taken care of the Tyger Claws, there should be a car waiting for them along the entrance of the slums. They should deposit the body there and drive to Northside, which should be around 350M away from the player. Unlike other riding missions, it would help to not drive as fast considering the nature of having a passenger NPC with them.
When they reach Northside, Dennis will meet them and finally introduce the passenger players have been protecting all along. As it turns out, this man is actually Haruyoshi Nishikata, a well-famed surgeon who, after purposefully failing the operation of a Tyger Claw boss, has been on the run from the faction ever since. As with a lot of Cyberpunk 2077 content, Haruyoshi is referencing Hidetoshi Hasegawa from The Office, who is also a surgeon but this time on the run from the Yakuza.
