CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the most popular games in the world right now across all consoles, owing to the hype around its latest 2.0 update, and the new Phantom Liberty DLC that has had a positive reception within its community. The story revolves around a battle-hardened mercenary named V and their relationship with the famed rockstar Johnny Silverhand, voiced by Keanu Reeves. Since much of the heart of the story is found in the relationship between these two characters, it’s no wonder that some fans of the game are interested in hunting down nuances behind some of the dialogue and cut content.

It's a well-known fact that Cyberpunk 2077’s release in 2020 was nothing short of disastrous, with countless bugs hampering the gameplay. This resulted in the developers focusing on fixing the game’s many issues over introducing bonus content, like more lines that flesh out the dynamic between V and Johnny. It’s only now, years later, that the details surrounding the leading character’s cut dialogue have become clear.

Cyberpunk 2077's Sequel Should Avoid the Original's Senseless Shock Factor

Though CD Projekt Red may have felt compelled to lend Cyberpunk a visceral energy, the game's sequel should deviate from its predecessor's excesses.

CD Projekt Red Cut a Plethora of Content Featuring Johnny Silverhand

CD Projekt Red is well-known for supporting its games post-launch — as was seen in its previous mega-blockbuster The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The Witcher 3 received a stream of constant updates and two major DLCs, Heart of Stone and Blood and Wine , released in October 2015 and May 2016 respectively. However, Cyberpunk never received the same treatment, in part because of the PR nightmare the studio faced due to a poor launch, and several Cyberpunk 2077 lawsuits that hampered its early days.

Since CDPR had less time and resources to give the fans new content, the community had ample time to identify areas of the game where it wanted more details and expected Johnny to have more to say. For instance, when the player can start a relationship with Johnny Silverhand’s old bandmate, Kerry Eurodyne, who was an integral part of their famous band Samurai , Johnny has suspiciously little to say about the potential development. Eventually, a video containing some cut dialogue surfaced on YouTube, showcasing exactly what the rocker thought about the arrangement.

Some Cut Dialogue Addresses More Personal Aspects Of Johnny Silverhand's Life

Johnny Silverhand is an enigma, and his early years remain shrouded in mystery throughout the main story of Cyberpunk 2077. However, some cut dialogue hints at his life while he was the frontman for his band Samurai , including Silverhand’s possible romantic link with Kerry Eurodyne. This surfaced in a dialogue Silverhand had with V in a club, before the following exchange was heard:

V: “I thought you preferred girls?”

Johnny: “Mostly. Now and then I swing both ways. The more the merrier.”

The Planned DLCs Were Set To Focus on Johnny Silverhand as Well

CD Projekt Red has a tendency to flesh out different detailed aspects of all of its games with DLC, as seen in the Witcher series as well. However, its plans never came to fruition for Cyberpunk 2077. The game launched with a roadmap that included two out of at least three planned DLCs launching in the first few years . Unfortunately, like most other post-launch efforts of the studio, the DLC releases too, were derailed by the difficult first few months of the game and were eventually canceled.

These expansions were canceled before they could enter full development, so it’s unclear what they’d end up looking like. However, what is clear is the fact that an entirely new avenue of Silverhand’s character could have been explored there — including how he reacts to new environments and trials. Johnny and V are the two pairs of eyes that the player uses to explore Cyberpunk 2077’s Night City and their relationship could have been tested in new, more creative ways in the planned expansions. The Johnny Silverhand cut dialogue gives a good idea of what that could’ve been like.

Phantom Liberty Captures The Heart Of The Character Fans Fell In Love With Years Ago

It wasn’t until September 21, 2023, that Cyberpunk got its next big break. The 2.0 patch came out, and Phantom Liberty followed soon after. The main difference between the two updates is Silverhand being featured more in his element than ever. The all-new dialogue between V and Johnny fleshes out Johnny’s character even more, including a new Cyberpunk 2077 ending for that puts him in an incredibly dangerous spot.
