Nvidia has yet to release its RTX 5090 GPU to the masses, but developers at CD Projekt Red (CDPR) seem to have jumped the gun. Ahead of the GPU's release at the tail end of this month, they've thrown in a massive Cyberpunk 2077 patch for PC gamers that incorporates DLSS4 support before Blackwell GPUs make their way to the masses.
With Nvidia's RTX 5000 series GPUs, at least at the highest end (RTX 5090 and RTX 5080), expected to release as early as next week, users might have to wait to check out some of the more exclusive features, such as Multi Frame Generation with Cyberpunk 2077. Others with RTX 4000 series GPUs can already take advantage of some of the visual upgrades that Cyberpunk 2077 offers currently.

Why DLSS 4 Is A Game-Changer For Games Beyond Cyberpunk 2077
DLSS brings a plethora of new optimizations into play for titles, old and new alike, as it offers tech such as Multi Frame Generation to bridge the gap between the most demanding titles (when ray tracing is turned on) and gamers looking for a stable frame rate to play on, especially at resolutions near the 4K mark.
Nvidia has currently announced that as many as 75 already available games and applications support DLSS 4. Plus, newer titles such as The Witcher 4: Black State, DOOM: The Dark Ages, and Dune: Awakening are expected to support its newest tech at launch.
Thanks to the enhanced upscaling it offers via a new Transformer model, it offers smoother edges, better motion resolution, and a reduction in artifacts even as concerns are being raised by some quarters about how latency might play out, especially when one considers the Multi-Frame Generation in play.
For most however, DLSS 4 is an upgrade that lowers VRAM requirements while increasing performance, making it an upgrade worth having even on older GPUs. However, one can expect only Nvidia's newest Blackwell (RTX 5000 series) GPUs to be complete beneficiaries of its latest advancement.

Cyberpunk 2077 Patch 2.21: What Does It Offer On The Visual Front?
DLSS4 allows Cyberpunk 2077 to leverage its newer transformer model, allowing it to offer better textures and cleaner player models. It also reduces VRAM usage on all RTX 4000 series GPUs, making it easier to step up on the resolution and texture fronts for the game.
Performance enhancements include faster single-frame generation even on last-gen GPUs. The update also offers a choice between the older CNN (Convolutional Neural Network) and the newer Transformer model from Nvidia, alongside fixes for issues with artifacts and smudging issues that are exhibited when users leverage the in-game DLSS Ray Reconstruction feature.
This has resulted in much smoother performance and reduced ghosting on the newer model, albeit at a slight frame rate drop on the RTX 4000 series GPUs.
