CD Projekt Red's popular RPG Cyberpunk 2077 is set to debut on Mac in 2025. Having previously made its mark on PlayStation and Xbox consoles as well as on PC, Cyberpunk 2077 is now being ported to Apple's macOS four years after its initial launch.
Back in 2020, Cyberpunk 2077 was one of the most highly anticipated titles of the year. The action RPG, which starred beloved actor Keanu Reeves in a pivotal role, generated unprecedented pre-order sales for developer CD Projekt Red. While the game drew flak for its buggy state at launch on December 10, 2022, it gradually found player favor after devs released numerous patches to improve the game. On September 26, 2023, the Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty DLC was released to very positive reviews, which helped to bolster the game's status as one of the most improved titles in recent memory.

CDPR has announced that Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition is scheduled to roll out for macOS in early 2025. This version of the game will give Mac players access to both the base game and the Phantom Liberty expansion. Of note, it will be released only for Mac devices that utilize Apple silicon chips. The Polish studio underlined that the forthcoming game will take "full advantage" of Apple silicon and Metal technologies and will include features such as path tracing, frame generation, and built-in Spatial Audio. Fortunately, those who already own the sci-fi game on Steam won't need to purchase Cyberpunk 2077 again on their Mac in order to play.
Cyberpunk 2077 and Phantom Liberty DLC to Land on macOS Next Year
After selling millions of copies on console and PC, Cyberpunk 2077 is ready to make its way onto a new platform, possibly introducing the game to a whole new audience. While Mac users have had to wait a long time, they can be assured that they are receiving the most complete version of the title. Since CDPR's RPG is coming out for Apple silicon-powered devices, Mac systems running on the M1 chip or newer should be compatible. Moreover, while Steam purchases have been confirmed to carry over to Mac, there is no clarification if this applies to only the Ultimate Edition or the separate base game.
As CDPR works on porting Cyberpunk 2077 to macOS, its other projects are also picking up pace in the background. A variety of games are in the works at the popular studio, ranging from a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel to multiple Witcher titles. Among them, the next Witcher game, codenamed Polaris, is expected to hit stores first, with most of the developer's resources currently assigned to the long-awaited project.
