Summary

  • Cyberpunk 2077's NCPD can contact V via holocalls in order to task them with completing Scanner Hustles.
  • Receiving NCPD holocalls requires enabling one gameplay setting.
  • The option was only added in early 2022 following player complaints that their holos would never stop ringing due to NCPD Scanner Hustles being everywhere.

One veteran Cyberpunk 2077 player was recently surprised to learn that NCPD can contact V via holocalls. Their realization later made the rounds on social media, suggesting they weren't the only Cyberpunk 2077 player who forgot about or remained oblivious to this feature even after spending hundreds of hours in the game.

NCPD Scanner Hustles account for a big chunk of Cyberpunk 2077's side content. These days, the way most players discover them is by getting a text from a police dispatcher while being in the vicinity of one such optional gig.

But that's not how it always worked, as Reddit user AlarmedAlpaca99 can now attest. Namely, this player recently discovered that NCPD dispatchers can also make holocalls to V, having labeled that as a surprising revelation after "at least 400 hours" of playtime. To be precise, NCPD will always call V when they are in the vicinity of one of their side gigs, but the game will reject those calls by default. In order to enable them, players need to open Cyberpunk 2077 settings, then navigate to the Holocalls tab under Gameplay.

How To Enable NCPD Holocalls in Cyberpunk 2077

  • Go to Settings > Gameplay > Holocalls.
  • Enable the NCPD option on the following screen, which is muted by default.

Cyberpunk 2077 Disabled NCPD Holocalls by Default For a Good Reason

The following screen will allow them to unmute NCPD holocalls or mute those from fixers, which are enabled by default. The option itself was only introduced in Cyberpunk 2077 patch 1.5, which rolled out in February 2022. Prior to that, all NCPD Scanner Hustles were given to the player via a holocall. Since the base game contains 156 such side gigs, V's holo was essentially always ringing, at least until the player spent dozens of hours in the game, enough to at least do some exploring across all of Night City's districts.

Fan complaints about this state of affairs are what ultimately prompted CD Projekt Red to rethink the gig discovery mechanic. Since the holocall toggle was rolled out in patch 1.5, it is available across all of the game's versions, including those for the last-generation consoles, which stopped being supported after the 1.6 update. As a result, many Cyberpunk 2077 players who got into the game post-early 2022 may be surprised to learn that NCPD holocalls exist at all.

Curiously enough, AlarmedAlpaca99 is not actually among that group; despite being surprised to learn about the Scanner Hustle holocalls enough to share their discovery on social media, the player later said that they remembered annoying calls being a thing at launch. "It’s been so long and a hidden option that I forgot it existed," the fan explained. Be that as it may, the social media traction their re-discovery of this feature garnered indicates that some Cyberpunk 2077 players were indeed unaware of this setting up until recently.
