Cyberpunk 2077 is teasing something new with a cryptic social media post. It’s been almost five years since Cyberpunk 2077’s controversial initial launch, which was marred by a large assortment of bugs and glitches that made the futuristic RPG almost unplayable to many. In the years to follow, CD Projekt Red slowly but surely repaired the reputation of Cyberpunk 2077 with numerous patches, eventually culminating in the release of the massive Phantom Liberty DLC expansion in 2023.
By this time, Cyberpunk 2077 had gone from one of the most infamous launches in recent memory to getting an "Overwhelmingly Positive" Steam rating in 2025. CD Project Red now has a sequel in the works, codenamed "Project Orion." Not much is known about how this Cyberpunk 2077 sequel will build on the original’s first-person RPG gameplay and gritty, branching futuristic narrative, but CDPR has reportedly ramped up its hiring efforts to develop Project Orion and the many other titles it is currently working on, with the game reportedly entering pre-production.
Cyberpunk 2077: The Case for Project Orion to Follow the Devil Ending
Though often considered the worst ending to Cyberpunk 2077, The Devil ending could make for a particularly interesting premise for Project Orion.
In the meantime, the official Cyberpunk 2077 Twitter account has been posting cryptic calendar images with dates corresponding to the birthdays of key characters like Johnny Silverhand, Judy Alvarez, and Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty supporting protagonist Solomon Reed, as well as the anniversary of Cyberpunk 2077’s December 10, 2020 release. As some Twitter users have pointed out, the image contains a row of greyed-out boxes marked as “Data Encrypted,” seemingly hinting that something is being planned for later this year.
Cyberpunk 2077 Birthday Calendar Might Be a Clue for Future Announcements
As for what this supposed Cyberpunk 2077 announcement could be, there are a few possibilities. Earlier this week, it was revealed that Cyberpunk 2077 is getting ported to the Nintendo Switch 2 later this year, but this likely isn’t what the calendar posts are referring to as they have continued past that announcement. It could be more information about “Project Orion” or the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 anime that is in development at Netflix following the success of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners back in 2022.
In the meantime, the original Cyberpunk 2077 continues to receive patches to address some of the game’s lingering technical issues and add new content like a Baltro-themed sidequest or a nod to Keanu Reeve’s now-legendary “Sad Keanu” meme. If the blank spaces on the mysterious Cyberpunk 2077 are a sign of something bigger on the way, then fans should keep their eyes and ears peeled for more info about what it could be.
