The Cyberpunk 2077 Switch 2 port will support Joy-Con 2 motion controls, CD Projekt Red has revealed. The feature was confirmed in a recent developer diary, which also provided some additional details about how Cyberpunk 2077 will run on Nintendo’s upcoming console.

The Switch 2 version of Cyberpunk 2077 was officially announced on April 2, as part of the first-ever Nintendo Direct focused on the Switch successor. The dystopian RPG will be part of the console's launch lineup, releasing alongside the Switch 2 on June 5.

Ahead of the port's market debut, CD Projekt Red shared a new developer diary outlining key features of the Cyberpunk 2077 Switch 2 version. Among other things, director Adam Badowski revealed that the game will support motion controls on Nintendo's upcoming console. While the full scope of this feature is still unclear, Badowski confirmed melee weapons like katanas will be controllable by swinging one of the Joy-Cons. This might indicate that gyro aiming could be supported as well.

Switch 2 Is the Best Way to Play Cyberpunk 2077 on the Go, CDPR Says

Elsewhere during the video, CDPR VP of Technology Charles Tremblay suggested the game will make use of other Switch 2 features, including its LCD screen with variable refresh rate support. Cyberpunk 2077 is expected to run significantly better on the Switch 2 compared to the last-gen PlayStation and Xbox consoles, where it suffered from severe technical issues at launch. Reinforcing this perception, Tremblay opined that the Switch 2 will be "the best way to experience the game on the go."

Not accounting for laptops, the only current options for playing Cyberpunk 2077 on the go are handheld PCs, such as the Steam Deck and Asus ROG Ally X. Power users wanting to switch between multiple devices will be able to do so with ease, as the Cyberpunk 2077 Switch 2 version will support cross-progression, allowing players to share save files between platforms. On Nintendo’s next console, the game will target 1080p resolution in docked mode and 720p in handheld mode, with a frame rate of around 30–40 frames per second. Cyberpunk 2077 will offer two modes—Performance and Quality—that determine its frame rate target on the Switch 2.

In a recent interview with Game File, CDPR Engine Programmer Tim Green said that Cyberpunk 2077 will be around 64 GB in size on Nintendo's upcoming console. The physical edition will ship on a standard cartridge rather than one of the new Game-Key Cards, making it fully playable as soon as it's inserted into the console, without requiring an internet connection.
