It took a long time to get here, but Cyberpunk 2077 may finally be in its final state with the release of update 2.3. Launched with numerous issues back in 2020, Cyberpunk 2077 has dramatically improved in the intervening years, and it is now considered another CD Projekt Red masterpiece. Although technical issues are still part of Cyberpunk 2077's legacy, the game's strong storytelling and fully-realized take on Night City are now much easier to see.
CD Projekt Red has announced a slew of Cyberpunk projects in the years since 2077 released, though the developer has not stopped its work on the original game. Substantial updates continued to be released even after the launch of the Phantom Liberty DLC, and December 2024’s 2.2 patch introduced new cosmetic options alongside an enhanced photo mode and various other features. While it seemed like that patch might be the end of the game's post-launch support, CD Projekt Red has just released Cyberpunk 2077's 2.3 update, which contains even more cosmetics and photo mode upgrades as well as an AutoDrive feature and new quests. Cyberpunk 2077 is now completely filled with things for its players to do, but despite all the updates, there is still one widely-requested feature on the floor for a sequel to pick up.
Cyberpunk 2077 Is Kneecapping Its Looks In A Specific Way
As is evident from the contents of the game's last few updates, looking good is important to Cyberpunk 2077's players and developers. From the incredible character creator in Cyberpunk 2077, to Night City's gorgeous vistas, to the many weapons and outfits that players can equip themselves with, style plays an extremely important role in the game. However, there is one limitation that prevents players from fully enjoying all the game's stylish offerings.
A third-person camera can be enabled while driving in Cyberpunk 2077, but that's the only time it’s available.
Cyberpunk 2077 is designed as a first-person game, and it almost never deviates from its first-person camera. While this camera contributes to many of the game's cinematic and immersive elements, with Johnny Silverhand’s presence throughout Cyberpunk 2077 being chief among them, it also means that the custom player character goes almost entirely unseen. Players have been loud and clear about wanting this to change, and the next Cyberpunk game needs to listen.
Future Cyberpunk Games Should Add A Third-Person Camera
When a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 eventually arrives, it needs to come with a third-person mode. Indeed, only being able to consistently see V through a menu is frustrating, and the only way to address that issue currently is with Cyberpunk 2077 mods that force the camera behind V’s back. This is not an ideal solution, and CD Projekt Red should be well aware at this point that it needs to step in. If Cyberpunk 2077 can't get a third-person mode through a post-launch update, the next Cyberpunk game needs to take the plunge.
Why Third-Person Gameplay Is So Important In Cyberpunk
The benefits of having a third-person mode in a Cyberpunk game are numerous. It would allow customized player characters and clothing options to literally come into view, opening the door to new role-playing opportunities and even story benefits that could be attached to wearing certain factions’ clothes. Character animations in general could become looser and more grand, allowing acrobatic feats, like Cyberpunk 2077’s cut wall-running, to really shine. A third-person camera feels like the last big feature Cyberpunk 2077 needs to be considered truly complete, so a future installment can't let this one part of its story remain unfinished.
