Cyberpunk 2077 just keeps trucking along, with updates that are enough to keep tens of thousands of players around consistently, per Steam Charts. Its recent 2.3 update even saw another insurgence of players, despite the fact that it largely revolved around new vehicles and photo mode features. Now, all eyes are looking forward to the future, wondering whether a 2.4 update might add some even bigger, more substantial features to Cyberpunk 2077, but that depends on CD Projekt Red's plans, as 2.4 is currently unconfirmed.
Even with no confirmation, it still seems likely that Cyberpunk 2077 will get that coveted 2.4 update eventually, especially considering what the game has yet to add that many fans have been requesting for quite some time. One of those requested features is a New Game Plus mode for Cyberpunk 2077, though that is looking less likely as time goes on. However, there is another highly requested addition that might be even less likely, due to CD Projekt Red confirming it has no plans to add it. Those same words have been heard in the industry before, though, and have been swallowed not long after. As such, should Cyberpunk 2077 receive a 2.4 update, it wouldn't be too late to add what many fans have cried out for, despite its persistent absence being entirely understandable.
Cyberpunk 2077's Third-Person Refusal Still Hurts, and Update 2.4 Could Fix It
Why CDPR’s Stance on Third Person Remains a Missed Opportunity
Those in the Cyberpunk 2077 community, those who have followed the game through its evolution, and even those who have accidentally stumbled upon a Reddit post about the game are all likely familiar with one of its biggest fan requests: a third-person mode. It is, next to a New Game Plus mode, without a doubt, one of the most asked-for features, and yet CD Projekt Red has repeatedly denied players that luxury. In fact, after the launch of Cyberpunk 2077's 2.3 update, it confirmed in a post on X that it had "no such plans" for a third-person mode — a disheartening confirmation, to say the least.
To be candid, this is a hugely missed opportunity for Cyberpunk 2077, as a third-person mode would potentially justify players spending even more time in the game, as they would be able to experience it from an entirely different perspective. Furthermore, the ability to change V's outfit in the game practically begs for a third-person option, as players can only see the protagonist in mirrors, driving sequences, and cutscenes where the camera pulls back. Cyberpunk 2077's Photo Mode is really the only other option for viewing V's appearance, but it would still be worthwhile to see it at all times instead — or at least when players have third-person enabled.
The Slim Possibility That Update 2.4 Changes Course
To be fair, implementing a third-person mode for Cyberpunk 2077 would not only require a massive amount of work for CD Projekt Red, but it would also go against the developer's initial vision for the game, which prioritized immersion in Night City over everything else. As such, while "no such plans" doesn't necessarily lock the door on a third-person mode, it's still an extremely slim chance that one would ever be added to the game, especially this late in its life span.
That being said, considering Cyberpunk 2077's 2.3 update wasn't as substantial from a content perspective as some thought it might have been, 2.4 could change that narrative by incorporating a third-person mode, and even a New Game Plus option to go with it. This could be enough to keep the game, not just surviving, but thriving while CDPR devotes its attention to a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, as well as The Witcher 4. It's still a long way from being dead, but it could certainly prolong that time even more with the right changes in a future update.
