Characters from Cyberpunk 2077's richly developed universe are heading to a new game, and it's probably not one that fans of CD Projekt Red's gritty sci-fi RPG would be expecting. There have been a handful of Cyberpunk 2077 crossovers and collaborations in the past, but this newly announced one could provide a bit of culture shock, placing its characters in a much more whimsical and elegant world.
One of the biggest turnaround stories in recent memory, Cyberpunk 2077 was flooded with criticism from fans when it first released in December 2020, with players and reviewers slamming it for promised features that were missing, poor optimization, weirdly unexpected results from dialogue tree choices, and much more. However, the development team at CD Projekt Red's ability to right the ship by the time the 2.0 Update and Phantom Liberty expansion were released in 2023 has earned it a ton of praise, and its offshoot animated series, Cyberpunk Edgerunners, has earned itself similar accolades.

One long-standing fan theory about Cyberpunk 2077 has finally been debunked after five years by one of CD Projekt Red's creative directors.
Cyberpunk 2077's Next Crossover Has Been Revealed
Coming relatively soon, it seems that multiple characters from the dystopian metropolis of Night City will be coming to the successful open world RPG Wuthering Waves, and more specifically, the crossover will be related to Cyberpunk Edgerunners. Little has been revealed about the upcoming collaboration's content so far, but news about it first surfaced in April, when it was briefly mentioned as part of an official livestream that was mainly focused on hyping up Wuthering Waves' Version 2.3 content. While there's still no exact release date for the crossover to drop in Wuthering Waves, the developers are anticipating its arrival sometime in 2026, so players likely have somewhere between a few days and a year to wait.
During the initial announcement, which lasted only about a minute, the announcement of the collaboration was presented as though the livestream were being hacked, with the presenters feigning confusion before revealing that it was all part of the show. What little information was revealed is that the crossover will feature characters from Cyberpuink Edgerunners becoming playable in Wuthering Waves' colorful world, and there has been a relative drought of information in the months since. Eight months after the reveal, there has still been no indication of which characters will be making the cut, or how many there will be, but the animation's fans have their ideas. The most likely choices, it seems by fans' standards, would be the inclusion of David, Lucy, or Rebecca, as the first is the main character of the series and the other two are skilled allies who provide helpful hacking and combat skills.
With its big rise in popularity since its release, this isn't the first opportunity CD Projeckt has taken to collaborate with outside developers in fusing Cyberpunk with other game worlds. One memorable collab that brought content into the game was Cyberpunk 2077's crossover with Balatro, which arrived in December 2024 and sent players on a treasure hunt across Night City looking for pixelated Joker symbols. Other notable crossovers include one with Death Stranding, which brought six Cyberpunk-related missions to the game, and a collaboration from 2024 also brought V and Johnny Silverhanjd into Fortnite's world.
Cyberpunk fans who have been hoping for something a little more aligned to the source material have something to look forward to, but they might have a bit longer to wait. Reports from CD Projeckt Red earlier in the year confirmed that a video game sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 had entered pre-production, indicating that the timeframe for its release could potentially be several years away. Still, efforts to get the sequel on its feet appear to be going well, as reports from October that 135 developers had been assigned to the project. Still, it's likely to take a back seat while the studio focuses on The Witcher 4, which isn't expected to come out until 2027 at the earliest, but at least Cyberpunk fans can look forward to some crossover content in the downtime.
