A new trailer for indie developer Event Horizon's Dark Envoy has just dropped. The story-based video gives a deep dive into the two protagonists of the sci-fantasy role-playing game and the dangerous magical and mana-fueled world they must deal with.
While Dark Envoy will likely not see PC and consoles until next year – part of a strong lineup of 2022 video games – developer Event Horizon is building up hype with this new story trailer. There is a lot to unpack in just the one-minute and fifteen-second video, as it is filled with narrative details, gameplay, and more.
Dark Envoy is about two siblings – Malakai and Kaela – who are children of war refugees. They must survive together surrounded by the chaos of war, living day-to-day. The story is told in a non-linear fashion and the party-based combat allows players to tactically blend magic and technology to take down enemies.
Dark Envoy' s story mixes with its gameplay, as the two-sibling protagonist's narrative is matched with its two-player co-op mode. Whether it be in each cut-scene throughout the trailer or seeing the duo fighting side-by-side with their magical abilities, the siblings are clearly very close.
With two-player co-op adventure games like the well-received It Takes Two taking off, Dark Envoy has the opportunity to be special for some team-oriented entertainment. The game can, of course, be played alone as well, but the trailer does a good job of showcasing how the story itself ties into the idea of the two characters working with one another.
Dark Envoy is planned for a 2022 release for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
