Supermassive Games revealed the cast of The Dark Pictures Anthology: The Devil in Me in a new trailer. The fourth game in the horror anthology is said to be rooted in realism unlike the previous The Dark Pictures titles. According to publisher Bandai Namco, it will also feature a serial killer villain.
First revealed back in October, The Devil in Me will be the finale to The Dark Pictures Anthology Season 1. The game will follow a group of documentary filmmakers who are invited to a replica of real-life serial killer H.H. Holmes' "Murder Castle." Upon arriving, they soon realize that their lives are in danger, and they have to find a way out of the Murder Castle.
In a new, spine-chilling trailer, Supermassive Games introduced The Devil in Me's characters. The star-studded cast includes Paul Kaye (Charlie Lonnit), best known for his role as Thoros of Myr in Game of Thrones; Jessie Buckley (Kate Wilder) from Netflix's I'm Thinking of Ending Things; Fehinti Balogun (Mark Nestor) and Gloria Obianyo (Jamie Tiergan) from 2021's Dune; and Nikki Patel (Erin Keeman) from Coronation Street. The trailer showed all the characters dying in a brutal fashion, which gives players a hint as to what they can expect if they make the wrong decisions. Players also got a glimpse of The Devil in Me's mysterious serial killer, who's carrying an axe and seems to be wearing a surgeon's robe.
As mentioned, The Devil in Me will lean into realism as it will center around the actual history of serial killer H.H. Holmes. Based on the trailer, the Murder Castle will be equipped with various traps, like trapdoors and gas chambers, which are similar to the ones Holmes reportedly had in his hotel in 1893. According to reports, Holmes lured and killed up to 200 people during the Chicago World's Fair. However, some sources also claim that the number had been exaggerated throughout the years.
Supermassive Games has had a successful run since releasing Until Dawn in 2015. Recently, it came out with the summer camp horror The Quarry, which received positive reviews from critics and fans. But The Dark Pictures Anthology is probably still one of the most ambitious projects the developer has come out with because of the sheer amount of stories that were featured.
While the first season of The Dark Pictures Anthology will soon wrap up, Supermassive Games is reportedly planning to release more Dark Pictures titles in the future. So, horror fans better prepare for what's to come.
The Dark Pictures Anthology: The Devil in Me releases November 18, 2022, for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
