Just over a month after Dave The Diver’s release, players continue to rave about the casual, single-player adventure RPG that meshes exploration, management, and humor into one. During the day, the lazy-yet-very-helpful Dave dives into the depths of the “Blue Hole” and captures different types of fish, which later gets put to use at night when he helps put together dishes for the local sushi restaurant, Bancho Sushi. Dave the Diver' s very premise is something unique in the industry, and it's clear how well fans have responded to its release.
The indie title, created by South Korea-based studio MINTROCKET, has over 43,000 reviews on Steam, 97% of which are “overwhelmingly positive” at the time of this writing. While Dave The Diver director Jaeho Hwang said that he didn’t expect this amount of success, he’s grateful for what it’s become. In a recent interview with The Best War Games, Hwang added that it would be “really cool” to see Dave in other games.
Dave the Diver’s Next Adventure
Currently, Hwang discussed how the studio is focused on Quality of Life improvements and bug fixes for Dave the Diver, based on user feedback, as there has been a number of updates since release. These updates will continue, but many fans may be curious about new content beyond that. Luckily, it sounds like there are a few options on the table for brand-new Dave the Diver content or even potential crossovers.
“After that, we do plan to add some new content. Given the positive response we have been receiving, we also might consider some form of collaboration or crossovers. It would be really cool to see Dave the Diver show up in other fun games!”
Dave the Diver’s Switch Debut
Following the developers’ special thank you message for hitting 1 million users, it was revealed that Dave The Diver will be making its way to the Nintendo Switch later this year. The PC market is already huge, but many would argue that the Switch is more beneficial for smaller-scale indie games like Dave the Diver. With its release on Switch, Dave will be heading into a huge market and could increase his outreach for divers to join his journey. But, Hwang told The Best War Games that there are no specifics on dates or plans yet, as they address improvements for the PC version.
“Currently, we are fully focused on optimization. Since we had been primarily focusing on PC development, there were some areas where the performance on the Switch suffered from lag. Right now, we are actively addressing these issues to ensure a smoother gameplay experience. We are also considering enhancing the UI for better compatibility with gamepads and incorporating features like vibration feedback. As far as what will happen further down the road, we will reveal that at a later time.”
Nintendo Switch users may have a bittersweet feeling knowing that Dave The Diver will be available on their platform soon, but it’s just unclear how soon. PC players can continue to enjoy the month-old video game as MINTROCKET continues to dish out improvements and bug fixes for Dave the Diver, but they can also look forward to new content and perhaps potential collaborations or crossovers with other games. In an age of crossovers, multiverses, and other collaborations, it’ll be interesting to see how Dave would fit in another game (or perhaps how other games could be represented in the indie title).
