Dave the Diver offers players the unique opportunity to experience and balance two unexpected but perhaps equally frightening roles: underwater exploration and customer service. The former is performed by making daily dives to capture fish and other sea creatures, retrieve lost treasures, and uncover mysteries throughout the game’s main story. The latter involves using said discoveries to craft an enticing menu for the local sushi bar while also helping with its operation.
As expected, players will spend the majority of their time in Dave the Diver underwater, exploring the Blue Hole during the daytime during the morning or afternoon dives. Once they have completed their dives, they can head back to Bancho’s restaurant and use their haul to prepare a delicious menu for its customers.
Dave The Diver: Best Staff Employees, Ranked
To ensure each and every customer leaves Dave's sushi restaurant satisfied, players need a few employees to help them out.
This cycle continues throughout the game’s first chapter as players become accustomed to the gameplay and comfortable in Dave’s daily routine, while also undertaking quests to advance its story. This routine is changed up in the second chapter of Dave the Diver, when players unlock the ability to go fishing at night.
How to Unlock Night Fishing
Players can unlock night fishing on the first evening after starting Chapter 2 in Dave the Diver. The player will receive a phonecall from Bancho, who exclaims that a “noisy customer” has arrived at the sushi bar and is raising a fuss. Once Dave arrives at the restaurant, he encounters a character named Otto, who is reminiscing about a favorite childhood dish, Moray Eel Curry.
Otto explains that he would love to experience this culinary delight once more and offers the side mission, “A Noisy Customer.” Accepting this side mission unlocks night fishing, as the Moral Eel can be found only at night. Once the player has unlocked night fishing, they can choose to go on a dive at night instead of working at the restaurant.
Dave the Diver: How to Get the Fish Farm
The fish farm is a fast way to get loads more fish for the restaurant in Dave the Diver because players can breed and raise fish from eggs.
About Night Catchable Fish
In addition to the Moray Eel, there are numerous other fish and sea creatures that players can encounter only while night fishing. An assortment of fish available during the day will also make an appearance, but players will occasionally need to skip their sushi bar shift to head underwater to get their hands on some rare delicacies.
Star Ratings
A fish’s rarity is not to be confused with its star rating in the Marinca collection list, as this rating pertains solely to the condition of the fish when it was caught. A fish's condition is generally dependent on the tool or weapon used to capture the fish. Therefore, players looking to fill their Marinca collection with all three-star cards will want to employ specific methods when obtaining each fish. Thankfully, the Marinca list will update to always show the highest star rating card for each entry. Star ratings in Dave the Diver are assigned with the following criteria:
- 1-Star: The fish was killed before it was caught.
- 2-Star: The fish took damage before it was caught.
- 3-Star: The fish was caught without it taking damage.
