My introduction to the Arkham series was a great one. Joker's character in Asylum is one of the best villains in gaming history.

Batman: Arkham Asylum might have been to many, an introduction to the Batman mythos at DC. The way Batman: Arkham Asylum perfectly captures the atmosphere and the characters involved in the Batman lore makes it a treat for all who play it to witness. It's the perfect example of a comic book done right in video game format, as the Metroidvanian style solidifies an exceptional experience for 2009, as does the fluid combat.

To me, Arkham Asylum is a perfect example of how linear games are still very relevant and can still captivate audiences if done properly. It never ceases to amaze me how this game still feels ahead of the times in the crispness of its combat, and the fact that they packed the environment with countless easter eggs and cameos made this the perfect experience for not just superhero nerds, but fans of action games in general.

I was late to the Arkham series, and it had already gained a reputation of high quality by the time I picked it up. It has earned every word of it. Asylum in particular has a dark and haunting atmosphere that really makes it feel like you've entered Hell on Earth. Never fear though, you are the Batman, armed with helpful gadgets and a brutal combat system that is as elegant and responsive as it is violent. Add in a star-studded cast of characters (including a few return performances from the classic animated series), and you have the start of the greatest superhero series ever made.

A surprisingly well-written and enjoyable adventure. I'm not usually a fan of the superhero genre but this was done very well - Joker in particular was a highlight!
