Batman Arkham City

Batman Arkham City proved that superhero games can be great too.

I still remember the game's opening scene, walking out of that prison and facing Penguin.

Not only was the combat system incredibly satisfying, but the story was also quite deep and dark. And we see how those hard times affect Batman in the next entry.

And the ending scene of this game still gives me goosebumps.

Batman Arkham City is still one of my all-time favorites. The free-flow combat system is so satisfying, and it really makes you feel like Batman. The story’s great, the voice acting is top-notch (Kevin Conroy’s Batman will forever be my favorite), and the open-world Gotham is a blast to explore. The game strikes a perfect balance between narrative and gameplay, and the Joker’s presence? Iconic.

I absolutely loved Arkham Asylum. At the time of its release, it was my idea of a perfect game, until Arkham City came along. The exploration through Gotham's grim streets added a whole other layer of immersion, and the story was one of the best I've experienced in all my years of gaming

Arkham City took what made the first game so iconic and took the next step: bringing Batman into an open-world version of Gotham City filled with crime to thwart and villains to stop. And it is glorious. While you can't drive the Batmobile (yet), gliding above the rooftops with Batman's cape feels smooth and rewarding. The story also builds on the lore established in the previous game to great effect, bringing in iconic characters like Catwoman and Robin and exploring the grueling tool Bruce Wayne's mission takes on him. And if that somehow isn't enough, there are side missions to embark on, including a bonus campaign centered around Gotham's most infamous thief.

A Batman adventure through-and-through, Arkham City is jam-packed with fan-favourite characters from the Rogues Gallery as well as some lesser-known ones. From the gadgets to the dialogues, Rocksteady has built everything in a way that makes you feel like Batman himself in his prime. With its highly enjoyable boss battles and its gripping story, Arkham City is definitely a must-play, especially for fans of the Dark Knight.

Batman: Arkham City's incredible depiction of the DC lore is exciting for hardcore fans and newcomers to get into the madhouse that is Batman's Rogues Gallery. The expansive and immersive nature of Arkham City is like no other, as is the chemistry between Kevin Conroy as Batman and Mark Hamil as the Joker. Where Arkham City really earns it's place as one of the greatest games of all time is in its story and combat.

A very cool open world to explore which has aged much better than a lot games coming out since!

Arkham City could be the best in the Arkham trilogy for me. The exploration for Riddler's Riddles was quite annoying, but everything else was a pure masterpiece.
