Description
Welcome to Mt. Holly, the mysterious manor with shifting rooms. In Blue Prince, you embark on a genre-defying experience, filled with a unique mix of mystery, strategy, and puzzles that weave together to create an unpredictable journey. Will your explorative steps lead you to the rumored Room 46?
Upon reaching a closed door in Mt. Holly, you decide what room appears behind it and each decision shapes your path as you navigate through the manor. Every door can reveal new and exciting chambers that contain their own unique challenges and secrets. But be careful how you draft, for each day the manor’s floor plan resets and the rooms you saw today may not be the same rooms you see tomorrow.
Your progress each day is shaped by the rooms you select to draft and the tools you find within them. Items in the game can be used in a number of creative ways to fuel your exploration deeper into the house, allowing you to adopt unique strategies to combat the challenges that each day brings. Yet, tread wisely – the house resets each dawn, erasing all but the permanent upgrades to your estate blueprint. That is, if you were clever enough to find one!
As the heir of Mt. Holly, you have been tasked to explore its shifting halls in search of Room 46. Yet as your journey takes you further into the mansion’s depths, you start to discover that there is more lurking under the surface than a missing room. Investigate a past woven with the threads of blackmail, political intrigue, and the mysterious disappearance of a local children’s book author. The deeper you venture, the more you realize that the past is closer than it appears.

Here comes a vent:
I'm far enough along where I rarely run out of steps. Then I got a "day" where running shoes were saved by the Moon Pendant and "classroom" was an option. With my "allowance " I was ready to get to 8th grade. (Ironically, I teach 7th.. )
Well, 6 FULL effing ranks in and NOT ONE classroom was drawn. Then I ran out of keys...
I may have a problem because I went back to it like a whimpering puppy.

Instant classic. Incredibly well-designed and just a very cool/fun premise that's presented thoughtfully and beautifully.

On paper, Blue Prince should have been perfect for me. It's a well-thought-out game with a ridiculous amount of depth that's guaranteed to get you thinking. Its puzzles never rely on moon logic, and the inclusion of items adds an extra layer of challenge. It really does have everything that I could ever ask for in a puzzle game. Yet, try as I might, I was never able to enjoy my time with it thanks to the RNG.
Having grown up with the likes of Myst and Monkey Island, solving the puzzles in Blue Prince was never too much of an issue, but I just couldn’t get past how much each run relies on luck. Sure, players can improve their odds over time by upgrading rooms and through their actions in previous runs, but there'll always be an element of randomness to proceedings that's far more frustrating than fun.
Even if you play perfectly, there's a strong possibility that you'll be forced to call it a day because some random factor didn't go your way. This randomness presents a far greater challenge than all of the game's puzzles combined, and with success hinging on getting lucky with draw options or grinding for long enough that you're able to tilt the odds in your favor, it ultimately feels hollow rather than earned.

This is a total me-coded game! The perfect blend of "walking-sim" with "puzzle" to create just a superb experience overall. If you liked the discovery-is-progression vibe of Outer Wilds, then you'll love Blue Prince. (Just seriously, this is the kind of game where you'll need to take notes while you play.)
