'inFAMOUS: Second Son' is a gorgeous open-world super-powered adventure but one that doesn't innovate on the story or gameplay front.

Superhero games centred on an original character doesn't seem like something that shoud be easy. But, for Sucker Punch, it looks like business as usual judging by the positive reception of its Infamous franchise. Second Son follows that same path of success, powered by the highly entertaining abilities of the protagonist, Delsin Rowe, and the rewarding nature of the choices made enabled by the game's Karma system. The actions you take in the game ultimately impact the outcomes you see unfold, allowing players to be their own kind of superhero or supervillain.

The powers are super fun to play with, especially the neon abilities, which are as flashy as they are effective. The story about Delsin trying to navigate his newfound powers and deal with a government agency hunting him is solid, and the visuals are gorgeous, really showing off the PS4’s capabilities. My only gripe? The moral choices didn’t feel as impactful as I hoped—they kinda boil down to “good” vs “bad” without much gray area. But if you love action-packed, super-powered fun, Second Son delivers.
