Atlus has done it again—this game feels like their magnum opus. The art, music, and turn-based combat are all top-notch, and the creativity in the world-building is just mind-blowing. The best part is the music theme. I sing it everytime I go into the Shower haha.

The concept of Persona has always fascinated me. The way Atlus managed to blend social elements with the traditional mechanics of JRPGs is nothing short of amazing. However, I often wondered how those mechanics would work in a different setting. Then Metaphor: ReFantazio came along, and it was love at first sight. It’s an incredibly well-crafted game with great characters and an adaptation of the mechanics that fits perfectly into a medieval fantasy setting.
The companions, especially those who join the party, are excellently designed. When I first saw Heismay, I thought he’d be more of a childlike mascot, similar to those in Persona 4 or 5. But seeing him portrayed as someone experienced, with a past full of regrets, was simply wonderful. He’s easily one of my favorite characters in the game.

My personal pick for Game of the Year 2024, Metaphor ReFantazio proves that Atlus can port its Persona formula to a new setting to draw in new players. For years, I've heard people say that the high school setting of Persona was a negative, and despite my disagreeing with that statement, meeting new characters in a high fantasy setting was a welcome breath of fresh air. Metaphor's story is relevant to many people today, while the title also introduces a new magic system and frantic combat along with a headbanging soundtrack throughout. Even after putting in 120 hours at launch, I'm already gearing up for another playthrough.

One of the ugliest and most nonsensical games I have played - and I speak as a fan of the Persona series! This one just missed the mark entirely for me. From the rancid colour palette and lifeless environments to the bizarre dialogue and infantile characters, it's hard to say I enjoyed any of it. The 2D animated cutscenes were impressive though and extremely well done. Perhaps this game would have been better as an anime.
