Catwoman has always been an interesting character in the Batman mythos. An anti-hero and sometimes villain who always puts Batman’s loyalty to his city into question with her flirtatious behavior and crimes, Catwoman is integral to adding layers to Batman’s complex war on crime in Gotham City, so it’s no surprise she’s appeared a few times.
While Catwoman hasn’t appeared as much as other characters, and it’s never been with the most screen time, she has made a lasting impact across the decades. Whether it’s the 60s, the 90s, or the 2020s, Selina Kyle’s Catwoman weaves beautifully into Batman’s story, with enough complexity for her own.

Wonder Woman is one of DC Comics’ top three heroes alongside Superman and Batman, so she most certainly deserves to be a hero with the most on-screen appearances in live-action. Yet, it’s funny to think that she’s the only hero on the list to have all of these appearances while being played by the same actor, Gal Gadot for the DC Extended Universe (DCEU).
Best DC Extended Universe Movies, Ranked
The DCEU has had a rough time with impressive audiences and critics alike, but now that it's over, it's time to look for the diamonds in the rough.
Gal Gadot became Wonder Woman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), and while reception to the movie may have been mixed, everyone wanted to see more of Gadot’s Wonder Woman at the time, leading to her popping up with that iconic electric cello theme in almost every DCEU movie after.

While the black curl and charming smile of Superman may excite audiences everywhere, Superman needs a villain to contrast his demeanor and motives, and who better than his bald and rich nemesis, Lex Luthor? Luthor has been featured in several movies over the years, and whether that’s as the leading antagonist or a minor tease for the future, there’s always something to do with him: bald cap or otherwise.
Lex Luthor brings an interesting dynamic to the screen thanks to his ego and genius, providing audiences with a villain that might not beat Superman based on brawn, but most certainly will challenge him with brains. Luthor always brings something to the table thanks to his wealth and determination to see Superman defeated, and it’s exciting and ominous to imagine what he’s cooking for James Gunn’s Superman.

The Joker is a character that it seems every actor wants to sink their teeth into. He’s a villain who has won two legendary actors their Academy Awards, and the Joker’s complexity and range of chaos and insanity make him an interesting one to chew on. Joker is a character that thrives off of chaos, and how much of that can topple the life of Batman and crumble Gotham City. There’s a reason this villain is so loved, and his multiple appearances prove exciting every time.
All Live-Action Batman Suits, Ranked
Batman has quite an extensive wardrobe, and over the years, his style has adapted to better help him fight crime in Gotham as its watchful guardian.
There’s always something interesting to do with Joker, to the point where the Clown Prince of Crime and Batman’s arch enemy has been a box office draw as the protagonist to his own movie, and it will be interesting to see once more how this incredible villain holds to the box office with Joker: Folie a Deux coming to theatres October 4, 2024.

To prove Batman isn’t alone in his war on crime, there’s the trusty good cop of Jim Gordon, often depicted as the police commissioner of Gotham City. Jim Gordon is another character that has featured in the multitude of Batman movies over the years and for good reason. He represents that not all men are corrupted by the criminal system that rules Gotham, and he’s a cop who cannot be bought.
Jim Gordon aids Batman’s fight against crime, even if they don’t always see eye-to-eye. Both characters are lucky to have one another in this fight, and if Jim’s not seen at the Bat Signal, then he’s most likely trying to investigate a cold case that could aid Batman and his city.

Superman is imperative to the DNA of superhero culture, and as the first, it’s no surprise that he has appeared in countless live-action movies. There’s a level of respect and awe for whoever wears the red cape and red boots, and across the decades, that responsibility has been gifted to some incredible talents, who each bring a unique flair to a character who has endured over 85 years on comic pages.
Highest-Grossing Superman Movies, Ranked
There is no superhero as iconic as Superman, but does his popularity withstand the often harsh market of superhero movie box office hits?
Even in a world where people seem to be against the idea of a superhero who saves a cat out of a tree, it’s Superman’s love of humanity that makes him so endearing, and even if the movie isn’t out until July 11, 2025, it’s nice to know that James Gunn’s Superman will bring that hopeful smile back for Superman as it was seen back with Christopher Reeve in the 70s.

What’s Batman without his trusty and loyal butler? Alfred Pennyworth has been with the Wayne family for decades, and he has been Batman’s loyal friend for decades across cinema. Every Batman needs an Alfred, and it’s impossible to get a Batman film without him. Alfred represents a necessary heart to Batman, a supportive and grounded father figure to aid and criticize Bruce when he goes too far.
It can sometimes be hard to humanize the one-man war on crime in Gotham City, which is why Alfred’s role is so important in the DC mythos. Every Batman deserves and needs an Alfred, so it’s no surprise to see him appear in the Batcave, aiding in Batman’s mission, and ironing his cape.

No DC character has resonated with fans more than Batman. Batman is iconic both in and out of cinema, and there’s a reason why there have been so many live-action depictions of the character. Batman’s popularity transcends the big screen, but even on it, he has appeared 15 times, with more appearances becoming inevitable with the DCU’s Brave and the Bold and Matt Reeves’ The Batman: Part 2.
Batman has endured and evolved on-screen, with many iconic performances from Adam West to Robert Pattinson. With 85 years of history and almost 60 years on the big screen, Batman continues to be one of the most popular heroes for a reason across the Multiverse thanks to his villains, struggles, and crime-fighting stories.
Highest-Grossing Batman Movies, Ranked
Batman has won the box office many times over the decades that he has featured on screen, and it seems audiences can never get enough of this DC hero.
