8 DCEU Actors Who Should Be Recast in the New DCU
The DCEU features talented actors who deserve a fresh start in James Gunn’s DCU, following Jason Momoa's example as Lobo.
John Cena’s Peacemaker will be back, but so will various other characters from the first season, including his greatest friends and allies. Season 2 of Peacemaker will also bring in other characters from across the DCU, including other superheroes, to make the series feel more connected to James Gunn’s overall universe.
11 White Dragon
The Worst Father In Superhero History Returns
- Played By: Robert Patrick
Robert Patrick will return as Auggie Smith, also known as the White Dragon, in Season 2 of Peacemaker. The first season primarily focused on how many of Christopher Smith's toxic traits as Peacemaker stemmed from being raised by his cruel and abusive white supremacist father, Auggie, who was arguably more evil than the alien threat trying to conquer Earth.
Auggie gathered his own cult of followers as the White Dragon and went after his son, which led to Christopher breaking the cycle of abuse by executing the villain. However, it was teased at the end of the series that Christopher is still being haunted by the memory of his father, which is likely going to be a recurring aspect of Season 2.
10 Maxwell Lord
Corporate Shark On The Lookout For New Heroes
- Played By: Sean Gunn
Fans got their first look at Sean Gunn’s Maxwell Lord via the Peacemaker Season 2 trailer, even though it is confirmed he will make his first appearance in James Gunn’s Superman. Previously, Maxwell Lord of the DC Extended Universe was played by Pedro Pascal exclusively in Wonder Woman 1984, while the DCU is making Sean Gunn’s version a pivotal role.
Both Hawkgirl and Guy Gardner’s Green Lantern work for him as members of a more cynical and snarky team of heroes owned by the Lordtech corporation. In Peacemaker Season 2, they seem to be on the lookout for new members, but Maxwell Lord seems very uninterested in Peacemaker. Like the two heroes, it seems like he won’t have a large role in the show.
9 Hawkgirl
Isabela Merced Could Become A Justice League Member
- Played By: Isabela Merced
Between The Last of Us and Alien: Romulu s, Isabela Merced has been part of multiple major franchises, but her new role is in the DCU as Kendra Saunders, better known as Hawkgirl. She will make her first appearance in Superman as part of the heroes who seem to be both allies and opponents of Superman.
In Peacemaker Season 2, Hawkgirl is with Maxwell Lord during the interview with Peacemaker for a role in their ranks, but much like with Lord, it seems like she will have a smaller role. However, this confirms that Hawkgirl will have a role in the DCU outside the Superman movie, potentially setting her up for an official Justice League appearance in the future.
8 Green Lantern
Guy Gardner Is Still A Snarky Jerk Of A Hero
- Played By: Nathan Fillion
Ever since the movie Slither, Nathan Fillion has made at least a cameo in nearly every James Gunn movie or show, from Guardians of the Galaxy to The Suicide Squad. Therefore, fans were far from shocked that he was announced to have a role in the DCU, and as a Green Lantern, but not the Green Lantern that fans expected.
DC: Most Powerful Green Lanterns, Ranked
The Green Lantern corps is a key part of the DC universe and powerful characters have emerged from this group, but which members are the strongest?
In both Peacemaker Season 2 and the upcoming Superman movie, Nathan Fillion plays Guy Gardner, a Green Lantern known for being one of the most reckless and troublesome members of the Corps. Although he is not a bad person and has demonstrated his worthiness of a Power Ring in the comics, Guy's arrogance and fearlessness often make him cocky and difficult to work with.
7 John Economos
The 11th Street Kids Aren’t The Same Without Him
- Played By: Steve Agee
John Economos, as played by Steve Agee, made his DCU debut as a cameo in the Creature Commandos series, but he has been in every James Gunn DC production. He first debuted as a major part of Amanda Waller’s Task Force X program in The Suicide Squad before being demoted alongside Emilia Harcourt to manage Peacemaker in the fight against Project Butterfly.
In Season 1, John Economos was a soft-spoken man with a good heart, which made it surprising that he ever worked for Amanda Waller. He has had difficulty resorting to violence in the past, but when it really mattered, he proved to be an irreplaceable member of Peacemaker's team, known as the 11th Street Kids.
6 Emilia Harcourt
Her Anger Issues Have Her In Therapy
- Played By: Jennifer Holland
Although it wasn't fully developed in the first season, it’s evident that Emilia Harcourt has a dark past that has shaped her into a hard-hitting character, both physically and verbally. Her situation is further complicated by her interactions with Peacemaker, who initially exhibits overt misogyny. However, as the series progresses, both characters develop a mutual respect. Interestingly, Harcourt is the one who created the 11th Street Kids group chat for the main characters.
In Season 2 of Peacemaker, Harcourt is shown in therapy, likely due to her anger issues, which will hopefully lead to more exploration of her backstory. The last time fans saw Harcourt was in the Black Adam movie, where she was in charge of a Task Force X Black Site, where multiple metahumans were imprisoned, but it’s uncertain if those events are canon to the new DCU.
5 Leota Adebayo
The One Who Exposed Amanda Waller’s Evil
- Played By: Danielle Brooks
Where Economos and Harcourt were quick to denounce Peacemaker as both a hero and a person, Leota Adebayo was the first person from ARGUS who tried to befriend him. During the first season, Leota remained at Chris’ side throughout the story, even when he was being mean or cruel to people like John.
It was revealed in the first season that Leota is the daughter of Amanda Waller; however, she inherited none of her mother’s cold-hearted nature, much to her mother’s disappointment. Leota and her wife, Keeya, are both confirmed to return in Peacemaker Season 2 after Leota became pivotal in defeating the Butterflies and exposing Amanda Waller’s dirty secrets to the world, which could make her a target of Rick Flag Sr. And ARGUS.
4 Rick Flag Sr.
Revenge Will Make Him Into A Villain For Peacemaker
- Played By: Frank Grillo
Frank Grillo has had a role in Superman and Creature Commandos as Rick Flag Sr., making him the connective tissue between all DCU projects thus far. He was the main protagonist in Creature Commandos, but in Season 2 of Peacemaker, he will be more of an antagonist, hunting the titular anti-hero for killing Rick Flag Jr. In The Suicide Squad.
Best Superman Movie Trailers, Ranked
From the original Christopher Reeve to the new David Corenswet, the Superman movies have used well-made trailers to draw audiences to theaters.
It’s unclear if Rick Flag Sr. Is the main villain of the season or if another threat will come along, but he is shown to be leading ARGUS as his personal army against Peacemaker. His vendetta could be a way to bring back Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag Jr. In flashbacks, as he was a fan-favorite character in The Suicide Squad, thus developing Frank Grillo’s character even more.
3 Vigilante
Comedic And Ultra-Violent Showstealing Sidekick
- Played By: Freddie Stroma
Violent, sociopathic, and downright goofy, Vigilante stole the show in every episode of the first season as this anti-hero whose main concern was not justice or doing the right thing. All he cared about was being friends with Peacemaker and murdering criminals, kind of like a more immature version of the Punisher.
Vigilante was even willing to kill people who Peacemaker was too afraid to fight, showing just how much of a sociopath he truly is, but he’s also a loyal friend to Peacemaker, and eventually, the rest of the 11th Street Kids. Freddie Stroma’s take on the character led to a lot of laughs, which is likely also going to be the case in the second season.
2 Eagly
Every Superhero Needs A Loving Pet
- Played By: Dee Bradley Baker
James Gunn has a talent for making audiences fall in love with CGI animals, and Eagly was a prime example of that in the first season of Peacemaker, even though the silly concept could have backfired. Instead, Eagly proved to be not only a lovable character but a helpful partner when Peacemaker and the rest of the team needed him the most.
In the first season, viewers were genuinely concerned about Eagly when he was injured by the White Dragon, especially since James Gunn has a knack for killing off the characters fans love. Fortunately, Eagly survived and is once again seen fighting alongside Peacemaker in the trailer for Season 2.
