DCU's Booster Gold Casting Has Apparently Been Confirmed

James Gunn’s DCU is gradually taking shape, and naturally, casting rumors are bound to circulate from time to time. Among the latest speculation is the potential casting of Booster Gold, the time-traveling hero. While considerable skepticism surrounded this casting, recent endorsements suggest it might indeed be confirmed.

After the DCEU officially ended, fans eagerly anticipate seeing who will feature in the new DC Universe’s forthcoming films, which will kick off with the Superman movie as the inaugural big-screen project of the DCU's first phase, Gods and Monsters. Amidst these developments, there are numerous questions and concerns about the new DCU, particularly regarding casting new, untested characters. However, it has been disclosed that some familiar DC characters will continue in the new shared universe, including Xolo Maridueña as Blue Beetle. Maridueña was recently a guest at GalaxyCon in North Carolina, where he reportedly disclosed the actor set to portray Booster Gold in the DC universe.

According to TheCosmicCircus, Cobra Kai and Blue Beetle star Xolo Mariduena, one of the few actors transitioning from the DCEU to the DCU, recently hinted that Kumail Nanjiani (known for his role in Marvel's Eternals) has been cast as Booster Gold in the DCU. While speaking with the outlet, Maridueña expressed excitement about a potential future team-up between Booster Gold and Blue Beetle. Although neither DC Studios nor Nanjiani has officially announced this casting, rumors have been circulating for a few weeks now. A notable sign that these rumors could be true is that DC Studios co-chair James Gunn, who frequently addresses false rumors on social media, has remained silent on this one. However, until an official announcement, Nanjiani's involvement remains speculative, and Maridueña's comments may have been based on these unverified rumors.

Although DC hasn't made any official statements, it's logical for Maridueña to be familiar with Booster Gold, given the fan speculation about a future team-up with Blue Beetle. The two superheroes share a significant bond in DC Comics, though it's important to mention that Booster Gold is best friends with Maridueña's Jaime Reyes' predecessor and the second Blue Beetle, Ted Kord. Ted Kord's disappearance was a significant plot point in the Blue Beetle film and is expected to be explored further in the Booster Gold series. There are strong rumors that Jason Sudeikis, known for his role in Ted Lasso, provided the character’s voice in the movie and may portray Ted Kord in upcoming DCU projects.

Another rumor circulating about Booster Gold is the potential involvement of Danny McBride, Jeff Fradley, and John Carcieri in the series' development, a claim that James Gunn has yet to deny. Adding weight to this speculation is the confirmation that Jody Hill, known for his work on Eastbound & Down and Vice Principals, is onboard as a producer. When Gunn revealed the DCU Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters lineup, Booster Gold was among the confirmed projects. "Booster Gold is one of comics’ really popular cult heroes,” Gunn said. “He's a fascinating guy, a loser from the future who uses future technology to come back to present day and become a superhero so that people will love him. It is basically the superhero story of imposter syndrome in an HBO Max series." Given the current buzz surrounding Booster Gold, it’s possible that Gunn might eventually feel compelled to chime in sooner or later.
