Boltscale are a type of material in Dragon's Dogma 2 that comes from the tissue of serpents. It can be used to enhance all types of equipment at one of the various Smithy's throughout the land, such as Roderick in Vernworth. By paying the enhancement cost and using the required materials, you can significantly alter the stats of the equipment of your Arisen. Upgrading equipment will not only lower the carry weight of the item, but it will also increase stats like Magick and overall strength.
If you're on the hunt for Boltscales and not sure where to look, we've found a pretty easy location that can be accessed in the early game ripe for farming the material. Here's where to find Boltscales in Dragon's Dogma 2.

Early Boltscale Farming Location in Dragon's Dogma 2
Boltscales can be found by defeating the serpentine enemies hiding within the Darkhorde Cave in Dragon's Dogma 2. We have two images above showing the cave's general location, but for those needing additional help, the cave is southwest of Melve and northwest of the northern Trevo Mine exit/entrance. We got there by traveling far up north from Harve Village.
The cave system isn't that large, but you should still be able to defeat 3–5 monsters to farm a couple of Boltscales. If you want to return to the cave to keep defeating more of the monsters, you'll need to wait and pass the time for a couple of days. Each monster's death will reward players with about 959 XP and 90 DCP (Discipline), so even if you aren't getting the items you need in a timely manner, you should still be able to work towards leveling up your squad.
Luckily, there is a campfire and Riftstone outside Darkhorde Cave. So, if you've picked up a couple of camping kits, you can use those to pass the time and then wait for more monsters to spawn. Just be sure to use a high-quality kit, or else you and your group of Pawns might get attacked in the middle of the night.
