On August 14, Dead by Daylight community director Eric Pope and executive producer Jose Ramos revealed that the troubled horror game will refocus on quality-of-life updates over new releases. The next public test build (PTB) for Dead by Daylight was also pushed back to September, and an original chapter has been delayed to allow for more development time.
The reworked roadmap for Dead by Daylight came amid a controversial week for Behaviour Interactive and its fans. On August 11, a livestream intended to commemorate the crossover between Dead by Daylight and The Walking Dead was sabotaged by a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack, which disrupted all attempts to host a match during the show. Behaviour Interactive issued an apology and pledged to work with fans and content creators to address major concerns. Both the DDoS attack and Behaviour Interactive's initial response were met with harsh criticism from Dead by Daylight fans.
Dead by Daylight Fans Will Want to Check Out This Newly Announced Horror Game
Dead by Daylight fans have a new horror title to look forward to that could fill the void left by the exit of a crossover character.
Dead by Daylight Is Refocusing on Quality-of-Life Changes Over New Content
Following the launch of Dead by Daylight Patch 9.1.2, the development team sat down for a chat with fans to reveal that more changes are coming. As posted by Dead by Daylight on social media, Pope and Ramos shared a three-phase plan for the asymmetrical horror game, which will play out over the next six months at a minimum. The next planned PTB will be pushed back to early September, though a third August patch is slated to launch the week of August 25. The planned August update will address issues that were introduced in the July mid-chapter content patch, and some extra time for polish and quality assurance will be spent on an upcoming original chapter planned for the first phase.
The second phase of Dead by Daylight's new roadmap spans October to January, as the planned November chapter will be replaced with an update dedicated to more bug fixes and the winter event. This phase will also rework The Shape (Michael Myers) and introduce changes to how slugging, camping, and tunneling will work for Killers. Other high-priority changes to Killer gameplay are on Behaviour Interactive's schedule. The third phase of the quality-of-life roadmap will span through February 2026 and beyond, with additional changes scheduled for a March release.
A rework of Dead by Daylight's matchmaking rating (MMR) and other changes are also slated to occur in 2026, though no ETA was given. Behaviour Interactive clarified that all seasonal and special events for Dead by Daylight, including the return of the popular 2v8 match format on August 19, will go on as scheduled.
