One of the most successful asymmetrical co-op horror games ever released, Dead by Daylight remains ever-popular with its frequent additions of both original and IP horror content.
The original Alien film, released in 1979, was incredibly successful upon initial release and has gone on to be one of the most iconic and defining stories of both the sci-fi and horror genres. It should come as no surprise that such a legendary staple of horror is partnering with Dead by Daylight to bring the terrifying alien and inspiring heroine of the film into the game.
With the new Alien content in Dead by Daylight, players will be able to stalk their enemies as the Xenomorph, the titular alien, or try to escape as heroine Ellen Ripley. The spaceship that serves as the setting of the film will also be explorable as a new map, the Nostromo Wreckage. Players will be able to utilizes new gameplay features as both survivors and the alien. Switches can be found throughout the Nostromo to activate a blast of steam to stop the alien's pursuit and can be reset for multiple uses. When in play, the Xenomorph activates a unique Control Station feature, regardless of map selection. At the control stations, survivors will be able to pick up a Remote Flame Turret which can be strategically placed to fend off the alien. When the Xenomorph interacts with the Control Station, it is able to traverse through the spaceship's ventilation system, allowing the creature to quickly pop up on other sides of the map and even see the survivors footsteps above.
As with other IP-based updates, Dead by Daylight's unique survivor and killer perks and abilities will be available for both the Xenomorph and Ellen Ripley. The Xenomorph will have a Crawler Mode ability which increases its stealth, while Ellen Ripley's perk will allow her footsteps to be silenced even when running and dropping pallets. The developers have assured fans that they prioritized staying true to the aesthetic and ambiance of the film, so players can expect a truly terrifying sci-fi experience with this latest update.
Dead by Daylight continues to bring refreshing and memorable content to the game. While some players may prefer the original horror content, the addition of established franchises such as Stranger Things and Alien help to bring new audiences into the Dead by Daylight player base. This update is promising to fans of other horror films that could become video games, and players should expect more IP partnerships with Dead by Daylight in the future.
