Dead by Daylight developer Behaviour Interactive has confirmed plans to overhaul the game’s Kill Switch system following player backlash and confusion in regards to a lack of clarity regarding the feature's requirements. More specifically, the move comes after the Dead by Daylight community nominated the Streetwise perk for temporary removal due to an unresolved exploit, but were told by Behaviour that the issue failed to meet its Kill Switch criteria.
Back in June 2025, Dead by Daylight set a new player count record of 106,029 concurrent users following the release of its highly anticipated Five Nights at Freddy’s update. Proving to be a popular month for Dead by Dayligh t, the game’s previous all-time player count was recorded in June 2021 following the game’s Resident Evil crossover with 105,093 concurrent users.
Dead By Daylight Planning to Add Popular Fortnite Feature
Behaviour Interactive confirms it’s planning to add a popular Fortnite feature to its hit asymmetrical horror game, Dead by Daylight.
Dead by Daylight Perk Getting the Kill Switch
The Streetwise perk for Nea previously allowed players to increase the Efficiency of Items and extend the effect to other Survivors in an 8-meter radius. Following the release of Dead by Daylight’s 9.1.0 update, however, Streetwise was changed to instead increase the number of Charges for Items retrieved from Chests. Naturally, there were Dead by Daylight players who figured out a way to exploit Streetwise and use it to infinitely boost Charges. After this was pointed out and requests came in asking Behaviour for a Kill Switch fix, the developer initially responded by suggesting the issue failed to meet the necessary criteria, resulting in community backlash.
Behaviour has since taken note of player frustration over Streetwise failing to meet its Kill Switch criteria and released a statement confirming it’s “immediately rebuilding” Kill Switch to be “more nimble and better account for community sentiment.” With this, Behaviour assures that once a new Kill Switch process has been settled upon, the team will offer clearer communication on how to trigger it. Furthermore, Behaviour changed its mind and has now officially decided to throw the Kill Switch on Streetwise, along with Blood Rush, and the Last Stand perk for Michonne who was recently added to Dead by Daylight via its The Walking Dead crossover.
Behaviour makes regular changes to Dead by Daylight’s formula, but doesn’t always make these changes explicitly clear to players. After the developer released the game’s 9.0.2 Bugfix Patch back in July 2025, players noticed the Twisted Masquerade event for Dead by Daylight wasn’t spawning as many anniversary cakes as it had in previous years. After some silence, Behaviour shared a brief statement to Reddit confirming it was aware of players receiving fewer anniversary cakes, and that this wasn’t a bug but rather something that was “intended.”
In addition to taking steps to better address community concerns, like with its upcoming Kill Switch overhaul, Behaviour has also been working to regularly add and re-add highly requested content, with fan-favorite limited-time modifiers like Chaos Shuffle possibly returning to Dead by Daylight according to a recently shared leak posted to the LeaksDBD subreddit. With this in mind, it'll be interesting to see whether Behaviour will continue the trend of heeding player feedback in future content releases and patches for Dead by Daylight.
