Summary

  • Dead by Daylight's Resident Evil crossovers have been a huge hit with fans, offering unique gameplay and beloved characters from the franchise.
  • A potential third Resident Evil crossover DLC for Dead by Daylight could feature iconic characters like Lady Dimitrescu, offering new opportunities for gameplay.
  • With plenty of options for new Resident Evil characters and monsters to include, the collaboration between the two franchises shows no signs of slowing down.

The Resident Evil and Dead by Daylight franchises currently find themselves in a similarly fortunate position. Right now, Resident Evil is experiencing a bit of a golden age, with its cycle of remakes and mainline entries selling extremely well, bringing in an ever wider audience than the franchise has ever had before. Similarly, Dead by Daylight also remains successful even despite entering its 8th year, with over 40,000 people currently playing at the time of writing, according to Steam Charts.

So, naturally, when both successful franchises have joined together, it's brought about some pretty exciting results. Dead by Daylight has already crossed over with Resident Evil twice now, and on both occasions Behaviour Interactive has knocked it out of the park, managing to please both its own and Resident Evil fans at the same time. And while there are plenty of other video game franchises that Dead by Daylight should collaborate with, its best option might be another Resident Evil crossover DLC.

Dead by Daylight has been home to almost 20 crossovers over the last 8 years, and while all are fun to see in the game, they're certainly not equal.

A Third Dead by Daylight x Resident Evil Crossover Has a Lot of Potential

The First Two Resident Evil DLCs Are Some of Dead by Daylight's Best

Released in June 2021, Dead by Daylight's first Resident Evil DLC was unlike any crossover Chapter that came before it. While the vast majority of Dead by Daylight crossover DLCs had included a Killer and Survivor, the Resident Evil Chapter went above and beyond, adding a Killer and two Survivors (Nemesis, Leon Kennedy, and Jill Valentine), along with a themed map based on Resident Evil 2 Remake's Raccoon City Police Department. This initial Dead by Daylight x Resident Evil DLC was met with rave reviews among fans, bringing some excellent Perks to the game as well, all themed excellently around the source material.

Then, just over a year later, Dead by Daylight announced a second Resident Evil DLC. This time titled "Project W," Dead by Daylight's second Resident Evil Chapter added another two Survivors and one Killer to the game, this time bringing in underrated fan-favorites Ada Wong and Rebecca Chambers, along with the wonderfully camp and intimidating Albert Wesker. Though a themed map wasn't included this time around, this DLC still felt like the complete package, and both Chapters are still widely considered to be some of the best in Dead by Daylight history.

There's Still Plenty of Options for a Third Resident Evil x Dead by Daylight DLC

After the great success of the last two crossover DLCs, it seems only natural that Behaviour and Capcom would want to deliver another Dead by Daylight x Resident Evil crossover at some point, and thankfully, there are plenty of iconic characters still waiting to be used. Probably the best pick for the next Dead by Daylight x Resident Evil Killer would be Resident Evil Village's Lady Dimitrescu, the incredibly tall, gracious vampire that stalks the player around an eerie castle.

For Dead by Daylight's next Resident Evil-themed Survivor, Ethan or Rose Winters would be great picks, synergizing with Lady Dimitrescu's inclusion perfectly, and offering an option for newer Resident Evil fans to embrace.

Alternatively, there are still quite a few classic Resident Evil monsters and heroes Dead by Daylight could use. Mr. X would be a great pick for a Dead by Daylight Killer, though Behaviour might have a tough time making him stand out from Nemesis. A Licker could also be a great DbD Killer, giving players the ability to crawl on walls and see the map in a unique way due to their blindness. While a bunch of legacy Resident Evil characters are already in Dead by Daylight as legendary skins, there's nothing stopping characters like Chris and Claire Redfield from becoming their own fully-fledged characters in a future DLC.
