Name any iconic horror- or horror-adjacent franchise in popular culture and it’s probably been wish-listed or rumored for a chapter or collaboration in Dead by Daylight, Behaviour’s enduring asymmetrical live-service horror game. Five Nights at Freddy’s, one of the most vocally demanded crossovers in Dead by Daylight history, recently launched with Springtrap as a new killer and Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza as a new map.

Now, in what may or may not come as a surprise depending on how many reliable Dead by Daylight leaks players consume, Dead by Daylight is officially teasing a Walking Dead collaboration. The details or extent of such a crossover still seems rather unclear, even with rumors and leaks having spilled those beans for a while now, and the official announcement itself is a simple post with an image of The Walking Dead’s iconic “Dead Don’t Open Inside” door, presumably in-game. As for what this chapter or crossover may entail, there are at least 15 years of Walking Dead content that could eventually be making its way into Dead by Daylight, and that merely includes live-action source material.

Springtrap is finally in Dead by Daylight, and the Five Nights at Freddy's Chapter brings a ton of new features to the game as well.

Dead by Daylight Has No Shortage of Walking Dead Content to Consider

Survivors/Skins

Though unconfirmed as of yet, the most likely additions in Dead by Daylight’s Walking Dead chapter are Rick and Michonne Grimes as survivor characters. This has been reinforced by another recent teaser for Dead by Daylight’s Walking Dead content, featuring a letter written by ‘M’ and addressed to ‘R,’ as well as intrepid players deciphering “The Ones Who Live”—the title of Rick and Michonne’s Walking Dead spin-off show—in Dead by Daylight’s Roadmap to Year 10.

This same roadmap does denote the arrival of two new survivors, too, making it all the more probable that Rick and Michonne will be added to Dead by Daylight as early as tomorrow in a PTB. A full-blown Walking Dead chapter could also include skins for Rick and Michonne that ostensibly turn them into other beloved characters from the show, such as Daryl, Glenn, and Shane, or Maggie, Carol, and Andrea.

Of course, not every character in The Walking Dead’s enormous lineage will be accounted for as their own characters with unique perks, and Dead by Daylight’s wealth of cosmetic skins would make for a great catalog to represent them in. Either way, if the July portion of the roadmap alone is reserved for Walking Dead content, Rick and Michonne may be all that players have to look forward to.

Killers

A killer character adapted from The Walking Dead may not be on the docket if July’s chapter only includes two new survivors. That said, it may no longer be too early for players to get excited about what killers could be conceived in a future Walking Dead chapter, but Dead by Daylight might need to get a bit more creative.

Indeed, while The Walking Dead’s Negan quickly comes to mind as a potential killer, he may lean too heavily on the Trickster’s gimmick as a humanoid killer with a baseball bat as his primary weapon.

Likewise, an ordinary zombie might not be particularly imposing or interesting as a killer, especially due to how slow they are. Rather, someone like a Whisperer could make for an intriguing killer character if they had zombies accompany them and could order them around the map, even if this, too, would lean quite heavily on Resident Evil’s Nemesis having zombies spawn with him. Therefore, Dead by Daylight might be smart not to invest too much thought into a killer character for The Walking Dead.

Maps

Again, a new map may not be added if July is meant to incorporate Walking Dead content as it only mentions two new survivors. But, unlike the poor prospect of possible killer characters, there are countless map concepts that Dead by Daylight could draw inspiration from in subsequent chapters.

Indeed, it would be disappointing if no future Walking Dead chapter debuted a map for the Greene Family Farm, West Georgia Correctional Facility, Woodbury, Sanctuary, Hilltop, Alexandria, and so forth. With virtually no time left to speculate, all may be revealed tomorrow about what Dead by Daylight players can expect from its announced Walking Dead crossover.
