With Dead Island 2 inching closer to its release date, the development team at Dambuster released the requirements that PC players must meet to run the game at specific resolutions. While the specifications can get rather steep at the higher settings, Dead Island 2 listed four presets ranging from 1080p to 4K to suit the needs of PC gamers.

Last year, Dead Island 2 returned to the spotlight at Gamescom 2022, after nearly a decade of development hell, with the developers changing across that span multiple times. Eventually, Dead Island 2 was picked up by developer Dambuster Studios, a subsidiary of publisher Deep Silver. 10 years after the first Dead Island, the United States government placed the state of California in quarantine to contain the undead threat, only for more significant problems to arise. In Dead Island 2, players will explore the zombie-infested ruins of Los Angeles as one of six characters called Slayers, each of which has different innate skills to try out. However, before PC players can get their hands on Dead Island 2, they will first need to see if their machine is up to the task.

On social media, Dead Island 2 listed the requirements needed to play the game at a minimum resolution of 1080p and 30 frames per second (FPS). The game requires Windows 10 and at least 70 GB of space and only supports DirectX12 capable graphics cards. With certain parts coming down in price, players should have an easier time meeting the specifications to ensure a gruesome and fun experience in Dead Island 2 on PC. For the absolute minimum, players will need 10 GB of RAM, an AMD FX-9590 or Intel Core i7-7700HQ processor, and either an AMD Radeon RX 480 or GeForce GTX 1060 graphics card. While this shows that Dead Island 2 is capable of running on older hardware, the jump up to the recommended specifications requires the use of more modern hardware, as seen in the chart below.

While the game is an Epic Games Store exclusive on PC, it remains one of the most anticipated titles of 2023 on the platform. Though the high and ultra settings requirements are steep, Dead Island 2 can use temporal upscaling via AMD's FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR2) technology. By setting the game to render at a lower resolution, players can then turn on FSR and display the game at their target resolution without a loss in FPS.

Though the release date has changed before, Dead Island 2 will release next week, sooner than originally anticipated. Though social media remained hopeful that the PC requirements will not be at the same level as Square Enix's Forspoken, only time will tell how Dead Island 2 will run on the PCs of many gamers.

Dead Island 2 launches April 21 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
