Dead Island 2: Police Dept Keycard Location

One of the many things that Dead Island 2 has in spades, surprisingly, is doors. Of course, the game has an abundance of zombies, weapons, and loot for you to find and grab, but there are also a ton of doors to find keys for. Sometimes it's a lockbox, other times it's literally just a storage bin by a pool. Regardless of what it ends up being you will still need to find the key to open all these things, usually by looting it specific zombie corpses. The Police Dept Keycard is one of these items that you Dead Island 2 players will need to progress through the Venice Beach Police Department.

They'll need it to complete the Cold Pork Side Quest most importantly, but it's also needed for the Missing: Laura Quest and also to reach the Secure Storage Room in the back of the precinct. So, let's go over exactly where you can find it whether they're doing it mid-story or coming back to clear this Side Quest in their post-game adventures.

Updated April 27th, 2024 by Jacob Buchalter: In the time between this game's original release and now, Dead Island 2 has had a good amount of content added to it. There is the Haus and SoLA DLC additions, of course, but there have also been a fair number of updates and patches as well. However, not much of the content in the base game Side Quests has been changed, and this includes the Cold Pork Side Quest. However, this Side Quest can still be a bit confusing for first-time players, so let's go over how to get through it, step by step.

Dead Island 2 - Starting Cold Pork Side Quest

Most players will naturally discover the Police Dept. Keycard just by progressing through Trent's Side Quest, Cold Pork. However, you can technically find the key while exploring and without grabbing this Side Qust since you can explore the Police Department at any time, but if you do you just won't be able to access the Secure Storage or the Officer Lockbox inside said Police Dept.

Step One

Go To Venice Beach Police Department

Starting things off, let's find the Police Dept. Key. To find the key, you need to, of course, go to the Venice Beach Police Department. Head towards the beach and it should be clearly visible in the large area to the right of Muscle Beach and to the left of the Military Compound.

Once you get close to the Police Dept you'll likely encounter a variety of police officer basic zombies as well as some Bursters, you can take these out (or ignore them) and then head into the entrance on the right side of the building.

Step Two

Break Both Hidden Electrical Boxes To Open The Maglock

The first obstacle in the way are the two Electrical Boxes connected to the Front Office Mag Lock. Thankfully, all you need to do to find these boxes is follow the color-coded wires stemming from the Mag Lock. The first Electrical Box is on the other side of the front desk window to the right, and you can use a Thrown Weapon, bullet, or Curveball to pop this one.

The second Electrical Box is in the restroom to the right of the Mag Lock, and after a quick jump scare from the zombie occupying this restroom, you'll find the box just behind the door to the restroom. Break both of these and the Front Office Mag Lock should automatically open.

Head through the now-open, Mag Lock door and go into the Front Office through the doorway to the left (the two doors on the right are locked Jail Cells). In the office, Dead Island 2 you can then turn to the right (AKA the back end of the office) and you should see the Police Dept. Keycard just sitting on a shelf underneath the corkboard. Take it and go pop open the door leading to the back half of the Police Department building.
