Summary
- The exciting SoLA Festival DLC for Dead Island 2 can hopefully tie up loose ends and bring back a rewarding Easter egg.
- The chainsaw, a powerful weapon from the original Dead Island, could make a long-awaited appearance in the upcoming DLC.
- Dead Island 2 missed a huge opportunity by excluding the iconic chainsaw weapon, but hopefully the DLC will rectify this.
Dead Island 2's next DLC, SoLA Festival, is now only a couple of short days away, and although the prospect of having even more content is exciting, the expansion should bring back a rewarding Easter egg from the first game. Since its launch last year, Dead Island 2 has had one DLC, and SoLA Festival has the chance to improve the game in one big way.
Although it was exciting to get more Dead Island 2 content with the Haus DLC, the story arguably left a lot to be desired. However, the upcoming SoLA Festival expansion has a chance to get Dead Island 2 back on track by hopefully tying up some loose ends from the base game's story. As SoLA Festival draws closer, there is still plenty of mystery surrounding what the expansion will hold, but a great Easter egg to bring back from the first game would be the Jason Voorhees-inspired cameo.
After Dead Island 2, Sam B Should Only Be the Tip of the Iceberg for the Franchise
The events of Dead Island 2 brought back a fan favorite with Sam B, but this also raises questions regarding other past characters.
Dead Island's Jason Easter Egg Is More Than Just a Fun Cameo
At first, the idea of adding a character who vaguely resembles Jason Voorhees from the Friday the 13th franchise may seem a little goofy, but the Easter egg is actually really rewarding. There is a large variety of great weapons in Dead Island 2, but there is one particular weapon that is nowhere to be found in the game: a chainsaw.
Jason and the Chainsaw
The first appearance of Jason in Dead Island can be jarring, but it's ultimately one of the best encounters in the game because it can lead players to earn a chainsaw. Those who search in the Mingende Jungle can find Jason's hut, which is where the chainsaw is located. Not only is the chainsaw just cool, but it's also one of the most powerful weapons players can find in the game. The stats for the chainsaw are a force to be reckoned with, making it ideal for hacking and slashing zombies found on the island. It would be a huge surprise for Dead Island 2's SoLA Festival DLC to finally include such a powerful weapon in the roster.
Previous Hints of Dead Island 2 Including Chainsaws
There may not be any chainsaws currently in Dead Island 2, but this may have not always been the case. Back in January 2023, a tweet from the official Dead Island Twitter account posted a teaser that hinted at the possibility of the chainsaw making an appearance in the game.
This was several months before Dead Island 2 officially launched, meaning the chainsaw could have ended up on the cutting room floor. Still, there may have been plans all along to include the weapon in a future DLC.
In Dead Island, players find Jason fighting off a hoard of zombies with a machete, and he is incredibly hard to kill.
Dead Island 2 Is Missing a Huge Opportunity
Since the chainsaw was one of the best weapons players could find in the original Dead Island, the sequel is missing out on a big opportunity to improve the game's combat. The chainsaw was also featured in Dead Island: Riptide, so it just seems like an odd choice to leave out a weapon that has become so well-known in the horror genre. With the SoLA Festival DLC set to launch on April 17, only time will tell if the chainsaw finally makes its long-awaited appearance.
Dead Island 2 managed to beat the odds and make it out of a long and grueling development cycle, which is worth celebrating. However, leaving out a popular weapon that turns up the dial on fun and gruesome combat is a letdown. After Dead Island 2's Haus DLC, SoLA Festival will have to right some wrongs, and including a Jason cameo, or at the very least the chainsaw, would be a great addition to Dead Island 2.
