For that double dose of Dead Space goodness, the upcoming remake will be bundled with a free copy of DS2, which released in 2011, provided fans pre-order the former through Steam. Considered to be one of the biggest video game launches of 2023, especially in the horror genre, the Dead Space remake is one that fans of the series, and the genre on the whole, have been looking forward to, especially given the spiritual successor, The Callisto Protocol, didn't quite hit the mark for some.

With the original Dead Space turning 15 this year, along with other classic titles such as GTA 4, Fallout 3, and Left 4 Dead, and there not being a new entry in the survival franchise for almost ten years, this modern remake of the 2008 entry is hotly anticipated. Of course, it's too early to tell whether the upcoming rebuild of the game will be a success, but given how beloved the original was, it will hopefully tick horror fans' boxes, even more so now that one of the games will be offered for free.

According to a recent report, players will be able to get hold of a free copy of Dead Space 2 when they pre-order the Dead Space remake. The one caveat is that the offer is only available through Steam. The report goes on to say that the remake can be pre-ordered through other storefronts, such as Epic Games, but it doesn't appear as though the free giveaway will be included in these bundles. In any case, it's a nice little incentive for DS fans to choose Valve's PC gaming client when it comes to this modern take on the exploits of Isaac Clarke.

For those who missed out, the follow-up to the original game was equally praised, if not more so, with Dead Space 2 featuring the infamous eye needle sequence that had many players squirming. The series in general is notorious for its body horror, as well as it's intense and foreboding atmosphere. Sadly, things went downhill with the third entry, with the studio, Visceral Games, eventually closing its doors in 2017, a decision brought about through EA.

That disappointing ending aside, the maiden release was a landmark entry in horror gaming, and the remake promises to honor the legacy of Dead Space. Hopefully the developer will be able to make waves in the genre, especially with it releasing just before the remake of Resident Evil 4, which is being equally awaited by fans.

Dead Space releases January 27, 2023, on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
