Sony has revealed a new PlayStation 5 DualSense controller inspired by the upcoming Kojima Productions title Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. The unique peripheral will only be available for a limited time, and it will be released on the same date that Death Stranding 2 hits store shelves.
Fans of the original title have been desperate for more Death Stranding 2 details, with its predecessor quickly approaching its sixth birthday. Kojima officially revealed On the Beach during The Game Awards 2022, explaining that while its narrative had been completed, he had reworked much of the story to reflect the massive impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. While many members of the original cast will reprise their roles, some new faces have also been confirmed, including Elle Fanning and Debra Wilson. Ahead of the title's release this summer, eager players will soon have a chance to add a unique item to their collection.
Death Stranding 2 Might Be a Mobius Strip Disguised as a Road Trip
Based on what has been revealed so far and the lack of context surrounding it, Death Stranding 2 might be setting players up for an endless road trip.
In a new PlayStation Blog post, details regarding the new Death Stranding 2: On the Beach Limited Edition PS5 DualSense controller were revealed, with pre-orders set to begin on May 22 at 10 AM (ET) in the US and 10 AM (local time) in select European countries. Sony confirms that it worked closely with Kojima on the controller's design, which features Drawbridge's insignia and motto in bright orange across the touchpad. The controller will cost $84.99 and ship on June 26, the same day the game itself will be released. Pre-orders for Death Stranding 2's Collector's Edition and Digital Deluxe Edition are currently available, with each providing early access starting June 24.

While the game won't hit shelves until next month, it's already making waves for its unique gameplay enhancements. Death Stranding 2 will let players skip boss fights without missing major story beats, allowing those who find the fights too challenging to enjoy the game more like a visual novel. While some have criticized this move, others have applauded Kojima, as this could be a helpful accessibility tool and allow more diverse gamers to pick up the title.
In early April, it was confirmed that the live-action Death Stranding film adaptation was moving forward, with Michael Sarnoski (A Quiet Place: Day One) selected to write and direct the movie. Ari Aster (Midsommar) and Lars Knudsen (Hereditary) have also signed on as producers, and while no release window for the project has been announced, recent game adaptations have found incredible success, inspiring fans to be hopeful about the upcoming film.
