In Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Kojima Productions has introduced an assortment of improvements that not only make Sam's job much easier, but also make the game more interesting for the player. In the original game, if Sam wanted to collect a large quantity of crafting materials, there were not many options to choose from. In DS2, however, Sam now has access to a wide range of mines, each producing a specific material. On top of this, there is now an extensive network of monorails that allows Sam to transport huge quantities of materials with relative ease. In this guide, we will be focusing on the former, showing you where to find every mine in Death Stranding 2, and how to unlock the Dig, Dig, Dig! Trophy.
Death Stranding 2: All Cosmetics and How to Get Them
Death Stranding 2 has plenty of collectibles to change up Sam's cosmetic style, and here's how to unlock them all.
All Mines in Death Stranding 2 (& How to Restore Them)
In total, there are nine mines in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. Half of these mines are hubs that are found in central locations along the monorail lines. This allows Sam to send the mine's materials to the locations at either end of the line. The remaining mines are much smaller locations, and are not connected to the monorail system. However, these smaller lines are usually located near roads, and still serve as great sources of building materials.
The mines available in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, and the materials they offer, are as follows:
- Smoke Hill Mine (Small) – Ceramics
- Mine North of F1 (Large) – Special Alloys
- Twin Valley Mine (Small) – Chemicals
- Mine North of Tar Lake (Large) – Ceramics
- Mine Near F3 Crater (Large) – Resins
- Northeastern Mine (Large) – Metals
- Savanna Mine (Small) – Special Alloys
- Mine North of F6 (Large) – Resins
- South Edge Mine (Small) – Metals
How to Restore & Upgrade Mines:
Before you can benefit from the use of DS2's mines, you'll first need to restore them. You will encounter this system fairly early in the game, when you receive the sub-order to Restore Smoke Hill Mine. Essentially, all mines require Sam to deposit specific amounts of certain materials. The large mines will always require Special Alloys and Resin, while the small mines seem to require only Special Alloys. Once a mine is restored, it will charge you Chiral Crystals in exchange for the specific materials it offers.
After a mine has been restored, it can then be upgraded twice. This will entail adding more of the same material that was used to restore the mine. With each upgrade, the mine will provide more materials, and will be more resistant to damage.
Like all other major structures in Death Stranding 2, mines can be contributed to by all players once they are connected to the Chiral Network. Even if you don't have the materials to restore a mine, make sure to check them often to see if other players have contributed materials.
Smoke Hill Mine:
Smoke Hill Mine is located north of The Government's Base, and east of the Western Environmental Observatory in southwestern Australia. At Lv1, this mine will charge 800 Chiral Crystals for Ceramics x960.
Mine North of F1:
The Mine North of F1 is located on the western coast, just north of West Fort Knot. This will likely be the first large mine connected to the monorail you encounter. The Inventor is located on the small island directly north of the mine. At Lv1, the Mine North of F1 charges 2000 Chiral Crystals for Special Alloys x4800.
Death Stranding 2: How To Climb Mountainous Terrain
Mountainous terrain is tough to climb in Death Stranding 2. Here’s how to unlock special gloves that make traversal much easier.
Mine North of Tar Lake:
Geographically, the Mine North of Tar Lake is the next mine Sam can restore. This mine is located directly east of the Northern Environmental Observatory. At Lv1, this mine will charge 1600 Chiral Crystals for Ceramics x3200.
Twin Valley Mine:
The Twin Valley Mine is north of the Tar Lake Mine, just past the Architect. It is a bit tricky to restore, as it sits in the heart of an enemy camp. If you follow the road – or Auto-Pavers – east from the F2 South Distribution Center, you'll find the mine just past Auto-Paver AUS-HIGHWAY-03-04. This smaller mine charges 1200 Chiral Crystals for Chemicals x720.
Mine Near F3 Crater:
If you look in the center of the map's northern coast, you'll see a massive crater lake. To the west of the crater, you'll see a long peninsula where the Mine Near F3 Crater is located. At Lv1, this large mine charges 1000 Chiral Crystals for Resins x3200.
Northeastern Mine:
The Northeastern Mine can be found just beyond the northern edge of the 'oasis' area in the northeastern desert. The 'oasis' area is the large section of greenery that surrounds The Motherhood. The mine is just slightly northwest of their shelter. At Lv1, this large mine charges 1200 Chiral Crystals for Metals x4800.
Savanna Mine:
The Savanna Mine is located on the small island on the eastern side of the map that sits between the desert to the north, and the mountains to the south. The closest shelters to the Savanna mine are the Ghost Hunter to the southwest, and East Fort Knot to the southeast. This small mine charges 900 Chiral Crystals for Special Alloys x2400.
Mine North of F6:
The final large mine, Mine North of F6, is located along the southeastern coast of Australia. If you follow the monorail line or tracklayers south from East Fort Knot, you can miss the large circular structure. If you've located The Tar Therapist, then head directly south from their shelter. At Lv2, this large mine charges 1000 Chiral Crystals for Resins x3840.
South Edge Mine:
The final mine in DS2 – South Edge Mine – is located directly south of the Southern Environmental Observatory. You can also follow the roads southwest from South Fort Knot. This is a small mine that will likely not be encountered until very late in the game. Once it is restored, it acts as a great source of Metals for the many Auto-Pavers in the region. At Lv1, this small mine charges 600 Chiral Crystals for Metals x1200.
Currently, these nine locations are the only known mines in Death Stranding 2. Should any additional mines be discovered, we will add them here posthaste.
How to Unlock the Dig, Dig, Dig! Trophy in Death Stranding 2
Unlocking the Dig, Dig, Dig! Trophy in DS2 is very simple. All you must do is restore any three mines to working order, and the trophy will automatically unlock. It does not matter if they are all large mines, small mines, or a mix. You simply need to restore a total of 3.
