Death Stranding Could Be Coming to Nintendo Switch 2

Leaker Nash Weedle recently hinted that Death Stranding could be on its way to the Nintendo Switch 2 soon. Weedle made this prediction just before the recent Nintendo Direct, stating that he could not confirm that the title would be announced during the event. However, he claimed to have confirmation that the port would be announced soon.

It would not be too surprising to see Death Stranding being released on the Switch 2, considering that the device is much more powerful than the original Switch. Nintendo’s platform has received quite a few AAA games since its release, including Cyberpunk 2077 and the recent Borderlands 4, for example. Late in 2024, Death Stranding was also released on the Xbox Series X/S, showing that Kojima Productions is interested in reaching a wider audience with the title. In any case, it’s always best to take these rumors with a grain of salt and wait for official confirmation before getting too excited.

2025 is an excellent year to take the classic game to more platforms. Released a few months ago, the sequel Death Stranding 2: On the Beach became one of the highest-rated games of the year, and it currently stands with an average critic score of 90 on OpenCritic. It’s unclear if the sequel is also currently being considered for a Switch 2 release, though.

Many details about the future of the Death Stranding franchise are uncertain. Earlier this year, Hideo Kojima claimed to already have an idea for Death Stranding 3, but the director also does not have actual plans to turn it into a reality. At the time, Kojima commented that he would not return to direct a third entry in the franchise. In any case, it remains to be seen how the Death Stranding franchise will continue, and if sequels or more ports will happen sometime in the future.
