Wordle is back with another challenging puzzle. Today's word is difficult for a number of reasons, and players might need a hint or two. Keep scrolling for rules help, strategy for Wordle, hints to the answer, or the complete spoiler for today.

How To Play Wordle

While Wordle has been very popular this year, there are still some word puzzle fans that don't know how to play. In order to get started, players will want to make sure they are in the right place: the New York Times Games. This is the original version and the subject of this article. Other versions will have different answers and can have different rules, like the Wordle clone Yeardle which only has historical answers.

Once at the NYT's Wordle site, players will need to choose a starting word. This word:

  • Needs to be five letters long.
  • Needs to be a real English word.
  • Must not be one of the offensive words removed from Wordle by the New York Times.
  • Should not be a plural noun ending with S or ES or a previous answer.
  • Should have a variety of letters in it.

Type this word into the site and press enter. Players will then get clues from the colors that the letters become.

  • Gray letters are wrong.
  • Green letters are right.
  • Yellow letters are right but in the wrong position(s) in the word.

Players have a total of six tries to get to the correct answer before they lose. Puzzles reset daily at midnight local time. Since there is only one word for everyone every day, players should not spoil it. This is why Wordle has a spoiler-free share button for players to use.
