Music is very much a focal point for a lot of people and is made readily available thanks to streaming services like Spotify. In addition to its ease of use and ubiquitous availability on nearly every platform, Spotify makes curating music into playlists extremely easy.
But not all playlists are meant to last forever. Perhaps the mood has passed, or a user simply isn't into one or more of the bands any longer. Fortunately, just like creating the playlist, deleting it is just as simple. The steps are relatively straightforward, regardless of the platform a user may be on, and the deletion will carry across the entirety of the user's account. So deleting a playlist on mobile will also see its removal on desktop.
Deleting Spotify Playlist on Desktop
With Spotify open on desktop, there are two ways to access playlists. The first is the column on the left. Playlists will appear below "Create Playlist" and "Liked Songs." Otherwise, users can access them by selecting "Your Library" and then "Playlists." Once the list of playlists is open, right-click the playlist and select "Delete."
Mobile
The process for deleting a playlist on mobile is just as simple as it is on desktop. Select "Your Library" and then "Playlists." Then tap and hold on the playlist in question and select "Delete Playlist."
Unfollowing a Playlist
One thing to remember is that users cannot delete playlists that they haven't created. To remove playlists created by other users, tap or click the green heart icon on the playlist. This will unfollow it and remove it from the user's library.
Spotify was founded in 2006 by Daniel Ek and Martin Lorentzon in Stockholm, Sweden, and launched in October of 2008. Since then, it has become the world's largest music streaming service provider with over 381 million monthly active users. It is available in 184 markets and on a plethora of devices like PC, mobile, Amazon Echo, and Roku. Aside from offering music, Spotify has made considerable inroads in the podcast market and has acquired exclusivity deals with shows like The Joe Rogan Experience.
Spotify has grown to such an extent that its name is nearly synonymous with music streaming. While competitors like tech giants Google and Amazon have stepped into the market, they have yet to offer any serious competition to Spotify. Even iTunes, which could be argued popularized digital music and streaming thanks to its ease of use and integration into mobile devices, has yet to topple the Swedish giant. Between ease of use and being readily available, Spotify is poised to keep its position in the music streaming world.
