Toby Fox does not believe Deltarune Chapter 5 will release in the first half of 2026. While the next part of Deltarune will still likely be coming out next year, players will probably have to wait until July or later to find out what is in store for Kris, Susie, and Ralsei.
In 2018, the first chapter of Deltarune – an episodic spinoff of Undertale – was released, with the second part arriving in 2021. Then, on June 5, 2025, Chapters 3 and 4 both dropped alongside the Nintendo Switch 2, with Deltarune Chapter 5 planned for some time in 2026.
Deltarune Chapter 5 Likely Coming Second Half of 2026
Now, Deltarune has narrowed its release window for Chapter 5, though the news may not be exactly what fans hoped. Deltarune creator and composer Toby Fox recently shared a newsletter updating gamers on the progress of Chapter 5. The episode is well under way, with the rough draft of many areas and enemies now complete. Fox hopes to start localization by the end of 2025, but currently suspects Deltarune Chapter 5 will not be ready in the first half of 2026, meaning it will likely release no sooner than July of next year.
While the wait may be agonizing for some, a year or even a year and a half is still much shorter than the three- and four-year waits they endured for previous releases. What’s more, if Fox and his team continue at the pace set by a 2026 release of Deltarune Chapter 5, Chapter 6 could potentially be ready by 2027, with the full game finished in 2028 – just in time for the 10-year anniversary of Deltarune’s initial release.
The community is buzzing with speculation as to what Chapter 5 will bring to the game. Hints from Deltarune Chapter 4 have led many players to suspect Asgore – who served as a major antagonist in Undertale – will play a significant role, possibly with his flower shop becoming a Dark World. Fans will have to see how the next leg of the story plays out now that they have officially entered the second half of Deltarune.
Luckily, the wait will give new players plenty of time to catch up with its existing four chapters of Deltarune, or veterans to replay the entire game to find hidden secrets, alternative paths, and other Easter eggs. Deltarune Chapters 1 and 2 are available for free as a part of the demo version, while Chapters 3 and 4 must be purchased for $25. Chapters 5, 6, and 7 are all included in the paid version as well, so fans who buy the game today will be all set when these segments are finally released.
