Deltarune developer Toby Fox has announced an exciting detail that Nintendo Switch owners should be aware of, following the Undertale sequel’s official addition to the Switch 2 line-up. Deltarune’s first two chapters were released back in 2021, six years after Undertale took the indie RPG scene by storm, and the sequel follows teenager Kris, monster Susie, and Ralsei, the Dark World prince, who must save the world together.
Fox’s sequel was among the most surprising reveals during Nintendo’s substantial Switch 2 Direct, joining more exciting announcements, including Mario Kart World being an open-world launch title, Hollow Knight: Silksong’s addition to the successor console’s catalog of games, and the debut of FromSoftware’s new IP, The Duskbloods. Fans of the Japanese publisher will already know that the Switch 2 is scheduled to release on June 5, 2025, and the demand for pre-orders was nothing short of overwhelming for retailers.
One Nintendo Switch 2 Game Could Be the Yin to Deltarune's Yang
One indie title could be the perfect counterpart to Deltarune on Switch 2, bringing a unique balance to the console’s launch lineup.
Deltarune Chapters 3 and 4 finally received an official release date during the Direct, and Fox recently confirmed more good news for Nintendo users. Outlined in the latest Deltarune newsletter, the developer announced a “cross-buy” deal for Switch owners, confirming that if fans buy Chapters 1 - 4 on the Nintendo Switch, they’ll be able to play the Switch 2 version later at no extra cost. Similarly, PlayStation owners will receive the same deal after purchasing a PS4 version and later wanting to play the PS5 version. Deltarune Chapters 1 and 2 were released for free, but Chapters 3 and 4 will be paid releases.
Nintendo Users Can Buy Deltarune Once to Play on Switch and Switch 2
In addition to the game’s debut on the new-and-improved console, Deltarune has a feature exclusive to the Switch 2, which will likely make fans of the episodic series feel more at home. The community was already at the peak of excitement after the Direct, but confirmation of the cross-buy deal, combined with the newsletter’s second announcement noting Chapters 1 - 4’s specific release times, has positively left the fandom hyped.
Joining Deltarune and the plethora of surprises revealed during the Direct, the list of every Switch 2 game confirmed so far is impressive. Joining Mario Kart World, Nintendo will also add new games Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, Donkey Kong Bananza, and Kirby Air Riders to the publisher’s exclusive roster. Furthermore, there’s a host of third-party games that will be gracing the new console too, including Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade, and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4.
