The world of Demon Slayer is so extensive that its narrative does not actually seem constrained within a single point of view. Although the story of Tanjiro is the beating heart of the series, most of the characters have their own backstories, motivations, and tragedies that are strong enough to exist independently. Some influenced the outcome of the series, with some stories taking place years before the series even began.

These characters do not merely exist to gain the attention of fans, but are narrative goldmines. Their lives are full of unresolved questions, unknown fights, and emotional curves that could stand on their own. Should Demon Slayer ever grow outside its central premise, these are the characters who could handle leading their own series.

A must-read for Demon Slayer fans: ages, heights, and birthdays of the series' most iconic characters!

8 Lady Tamayo

Tamayo in Demon Slayer

Tamayo was involved in one of the most crucial tasks of the show, being the only person who was able to weaken Muzan in such a manner that no sword could ever do. Her smarts, self-control, and sense of righteousness allowed her to quietly become an irreplaceable part of the story, even when she was working far out of the limelight.

A show about Tamayo could focus on how she turned into a demon, the tragic incidents that occurred as a result, and the arduous and painful journey toward redemption. Seeing her denying the influence of Muzan, opposing her own nature, and giving her life to benefit people would provide a profoundly emotional and morally ambiguous story.

7 Kokushibo

Kokushibo-Featured-Image

Despite the fact that the manga tells the backstory of Kokushibo, it barely covers the centuries-long life of the demon. His downfall is one of the most chilling what-if scenarios in the series since he was once the second-strongest Demon Slayer.

An individual story would explore further into his life since he had turned into a demon, how he acclimated himself to it, how he defended his actions, and how he finally became the strongest among the followers of Muzan. The fact that he had his inner conflict, that he was competing with Yoriichi, and that he grew jealous gradually, all make him an interesting character to follow.

6 Gyomei Himejima

Demon-Slayer-Gyomei-flashback-scene

The mystery behind the story of Gyomei is already one of the most fleshed out and amazingly written in the series, and everyone knows him as the strongest Demon Slayer of the present generation, yet much of his life is yet to be discovered. His background prior to the orphanage, the tragedy that has affected him, and the silent determination that ensued all require more thorough exploration.

A series devoted to Gyomei would emphasize his development under his Master, how his education made him a subject of discipline, faith, and focus on what turned him into the character we know. Gyomei has the strength of acceptance and responsibility (unlike other characters, who are motivated by rage or ambition), which would give Demon Slayer an entirely new emotional dimension.

Not all anime Demon Kings are inherently evil, but all of them are most certainly overpowered MCs and are not to be trifled with.

5 Muzan Kibutsuji

Although the Demon Slayer series is centered around Muzan, his origin is more of a myth than a story. It would be chilling to see the whole journey that he has gone through to get where he is and how he slowly lost all of his humanity, creating countless demons, and his whole journey of finding immortality for centuries.

The Muzan-centered story may discuss how he was human in the early years of his life, how he feared death, and how he was driven beyond the point of no return. It would be even more effective to watch his personality and his humanity slowly erode as he becomes the Demon King.

4 Inosuke Hashibira

Demon Slayer Inosuke Hashibira Beast Breathing Seventh Form Spatial Awareness sense of touch

One of the most popular and humorous characters of the series is Inosuke. However, behind the madman-like energy, there is also a rather tragic background. Growing up in the mountains with no contact at all with human society, he lived by his own instincts instead of being guided.

An individual series would discuss how Inosuke was raised feral, how he developed his own breathing technique by mere trial and error, and how solitude formed his own vision of the world. The thought of watching his story of trying to adapt in the main series wouldd become a lot more convincing after the fandom comes to know his tragic birth and his backstory. His narrative would be filled with absurdity, brutality, and silent emotional development.

3 Kyojuro Rengoku

Rengoku-Featured-Image

Rengoku's story was already truly flamboyant, as Tengen would say, but fans would love it if they could see more of him. Being born to one of the most powerful Flame Hashira of his time, he was consequently emotionally neglected by his father and had to learn all by himself and went on to defeat one of the strongest demons and even saved Mitsuri from a lower moon demon.

Nonetheless, Rengoku became a Hashira all by himself and gained the respect not only of his allies but also of his enemies. He even trained Mitsuri, who also became a Hashira, which clearly shows his strength and training prowess. Rengoku also gave Upper Moon Three, Akaza, a hard time even when he was tired from a previous battle. A continuation of Rengoku's story would portray his backstory of becoming a Hashira, his fights with the Lower Moons, and how his optimism in the world was tested over and over again.

2 Akaza

Akaza in Demon Skayer (2)

The fandom has one of the strongest love-hate relationships with Akaza. He is praised by the fans due to his discipline, strength, respect, and strict personal rules of not consuming any female humans, but, on the other hand, is absolutely hated because he was the one who killed Rengoku. It is precisely that contradiction which makes him interesting.

Once fans found out about the tragic human background of Akaza, many fans fell in love with him totally. The inner struggle and how parts of his humanity endured centuries of violence could be the subject of a special series devoted to his early life as a demon.

1 Yoriichi Tsugikuni

Yoriichi wielding the Bright Red Nichirin Sword in Demon Slayer

Yoriichi is by far the most powerful human and Demon Slayer in the whole series. So great was his power that even Muzan called him a real monster. A show with Yoriichi as a focus would be unmatched and highly loved.

The emotional complexity would be composed of his loneliness, his guilt of being unable to save his family, and the weight of being stronger than the world could understand, as all he wanted was a peaceful life. Kind of ironic, as his brother got exactly what Yoriichi wanted, and being the strongest was what he wanted. It would not be a story about fighting, but being lonely at the top of life.
