The anime industry is huge, especially in Japan. However, overseas, it still has a lot of competition and has a lot of room for growth. Anime movies do not often overperform at the US box office, for example, but that seems to be changing.

A few Ghibli movies, as well as the first Demon Slayer movie, Mugen Train, have shown that Japanese animated movies have a lot of potential, and that the demand and market for them is only growing. Demon Slayer’s newest movie proves just that. Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 1 - Akaza’s Return has yet to be released in the US, yet it has done insane numbers with pre-sales, even better than juggernaut IP Superman.

  • Demon Slayer Amassed $10M in 3 Days
  • Superman Needed 4 Weeks for $20M

The new Demon Slayer movie, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 1 - Akaza’s Return, is a movie everyone wants to see at the moment. Theaters are filling up quickly in countries where it has already dropped, such as Japan or Korea. The movie, however, has yet to go fully global, especially in zones like Europe or North America.

When it comes to the US, however, pre-sales have already opened up this month, and the numbers are insane. In only 3 days, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 1 - Akaza’s Return has garnered over $10M in pre-sales.

This is extraordinary, as the Superman movie needed four weeks to get $20M in pre-sales. This is surprising, as superhero movies, especially a huge face like Superman, would, in theory, be doing a lot better.

Another big superhero movie, Fantastic 4, is doing even worse in comparison to Demon Slayer. This movie needed 4 weeks to get $20 million in pre-sales.

Now, whether this translates to Demon Slayer doing better at the box office in general is to be seen. It will definitely be hard to surpass Superman, which has gotten over $600m at the box office in total.

Demon Slayer fans who don’t want to wait for the movies to drop can check the manga out on Manga Plus. Meanwhile, for the anime, the series currently has 4 anime seasons. These anime seasons can all be found on Crunchyroll. The remaining of the series will, however, be animated into movies, which fans will have to wait for their theatrical release to watch, depending on their country.
