Kanae Kocho
Kanae Kocho Pushes Shinobu to Her Limits
- Cause of Death: Severe Injuries Inflicted By Upper Moon Two Doma
The beautiful Kanae Kocho was none other than the late Flower Hashira. Unfortunately, she encountered the upper moon two, Doma, leading to her untimely demise. She was the biological sister of Insect Hashira Shinobu Kocho, making her the spark that fueled Shinobu’s desire for vengeance. Before she died, she was able to describe Doma’s appearance to Shinobu, giving her sister a clear target even though she wanted her to quit being a demon slayer.
Pull yourself together. I won't allow you to cry. Stand up.—Kanae to Shinobu
During Shinobu’s fight with Doma in the Infinity Castle, Kanae Kocho appears before her younger sister. She is still dressed in her Hashira clothes, almost as if she never died and left the human world. Unlike before, Kanae pushes Shinobu to finish what she started, and that is to defeat and kill Doma at all costs. She becomes Shinobu’s guiding spirit, encouraging her to never give up.
Kagaya Ubuyashiki
Kagaya Motivates His Successor Kiriya Ubuyashiki
- Cause of Death: Unalived Himself By Explosion
Kagaya Ubuyashiki’s sacrifice in the final episode of the Hashira Training Arc was not in vain. His death gathered all the Hashira together and, not to mention, slowed down Muzan’s regenerative abilities with the help of Lady Tamayo, Gyomei Himejima, Yushiro, his wife, and two children. His death was the final push every demon slayer needed in the final fight against Muzan and his army of demons.
I know what eternity is. Eternity is human feeling.—Kagaya to Muzan
While the remaining Hashira and the main trio are fighting in the Infinity Castle, Kagaya Ubuyashiki’s spirit appears before his successor, Kiriya Ubuyashiki. The new master feels overwhelming pressure, illustrating the structure and layout of the Infinity Castle, until Kagaya Ubuyashiki’s appearance. He gave some encouraging words to Kiriya, reminding him of his duty and the progress they had made in the fight against Muzan.
Jigoro Kuwajima
Jigoro Appears in Zenitsu’s Dream
- Cause of Death: Seppuku
Jigoro Kuwajima is greatly missed by Zenitsu Agatsuma. However, it’s a different story for his other student, Kaigaku, who decided to turn his life around and become a demon. Because of this, Jigoro committed seppuku, unaliving himself just to take responsibility for Kaigaku’s actions. His death did not sit well with Zenitsu, who carried the pain of losing his master in his encounter with Kaigaku in the Infinity Castle.
Zenitsu, you are my pride and joy.—Jigoro to Zenitsu
Later on, Jigoro appears before Zenitsu in what seems like a dream, vision, or spiritual encounter. He was on the other side of the river or lake, listening to Zenitsu’s apology. Instead of hating Zenitsu for failing to save Kaigaku, a crying Jigoro tells him that he is his pride and joy.
Koyuki, Keizo, and Akaza’s Father
Akaza Remembers Them Before It’s Too Late
- Cause of Death: Akaza's Father (Hanging), Keizo and Koyuki (Poison)
Fans hated Akaza for killing Rengoku Kyojuro in the Mugen Train movie, but they felt sorry for him in the Infinity Castle movie. When he was still human, his world revolved around only three people: his unnamed father, his late fiancée, Koyuki, and his late master, Keizo. He existed to protect these people, hoping and wishing the world might not be as cruel to them as it was to him.
Welcome home, my love.—Koyuki to Akaza
However, fans know there's no saving Akaza’s loved ones. Even so, they all returned to the Infinity Castle just to remind Akaza of the precious human memories he lost after he encountered Muzan. While fighting Tanjiro and Giyu, Akaza’s human memories gradually returned to him, remembering the days he spent with his loved ones as Hakuji. In the end, they all welcomed Akaza into the afterlife, freeing him from Muzan and the torments of his sins.
Rengoku Kyojuro
Tanjiro and Shinjuro Honor Rengoku Kyojuro’s Memory
- Cause of Death: Killed by Upper Moon Three, Akaza
Of course, the first Infinity Castle movie would feel incomplete without the appearance of the late Flame Hashira, Rengoku Kyojuro. He lost his life fighting against Akaza in the Mugen Train movie while protecting Tanjiro and his friends. He died a heroic death, which left not just Tanjiro heartbroken but also his father, Shinjuro.
I will fight to protect people from demons.—Rengoku Kyojuro
In the Infinity Castle arc, Shinjuro remembers Kyojuro’s sacrifice, saying he is ready to sacrifice his life just like his son to protect Kiriya Ubuyashiki. On the other hand, Tanjiro remembers Kyojuro after Akaza talked badly about him. It angered Tanjiro so much; he had to give Akaza everything he had in battle to finally avenge him.
Tanjuro Kamado
Tanjiro Remembers Tanjuro’s Bear Encounter
- Cause of Death: Illness
For those who aren’t aware, Tanjuro Kamado was Tanjiro and Nezuko’s father. He died before Muzan Kibutsuji murdered his family in the mountains, leaving only Nezuko and Tanjiro alive. He was a sickly man, and he later succumbed to his illness. While he died early on in Demon Slayer, his legacy lives on in Tanjiro and Nezuko.
Never give up thinking things through.—Tanjuro to Tanjiro
During Tanjiro’s showdown with Akaza, a memory of Tanjuro surfaces, reminding him of a very important lesson his father once passed down. It happened on a snowy night, when Tanjuro woke Tanjiro just to show him the workings of the Transparent World. With an axe in his hand, Tanjuro quickly beheaded the bear that had wandered too close to their home. Thanks to this demonstration, Tanjiro manages to outpace Akaza, beheading him with Giyu’s help.
