This article contains spoilers from the Demon Slayer series.
The world of anime is only getting bigger with each passing year, and expectedly so, as anime isn't a niche interest like it used to be in the past. Anime is more mainstream than ever before, and that only serves as motivation for various incredible authors to write amazing stories which then get adapted into stunning new anime. As far as modern anime go, fans have seen a ton of incredible ones lately, but the one that shines the most out of them all is truly Demon Slayer.
Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Won’t Be The End Of The Series
Demon Slayer is a major series, and it won't end with the Infinity Castle movies.
Whereas the likes of the big three used to dominate the anime sphere at one point, now, a new King has officially arrived, and done so in quite a unique style. Demon Slayer is the new King of anime, all based on its popularity, and given how well it's received all over the world, it is safe to say that no other series comes even remotely close at the moment. Of course, that doesn't make it the best series out there, but fans know for a fact that Demon Slayer is the most popular right now.
Demon Slayer Is The New King of Modern Anime
It's The Most Popular New Anime Series
- Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academia never reached similar heights
- Out of the new anime, it is the most popular
Over the last decade or so, fans have seen some absolutely stunning anime being produced, and this includes the likes of masterpieces like Jujutsu Kaisen, to other deeper and melancholic stories like Frieren. There are also the likes of My Hero Academia from Studio Bones, and of course, the evergreen series like One Piece are always going to be there in the mix.
You're the one who's going to hell, Muzan! I'm coming for you. — Tanjiro to Muzan, Infinity Castle
While all these series are incredibly good in their own right, and some have an even better story than Demon Slayer, it is the latter that's crowned the King of anime. This is simply down to its popularity.
Demon Slayer Author Gotouge Reveals Why Tanjiro Never Became a Hashira
Tanjiro was never a Hashira in Demon Slayer, and the reason for why has been revealed.
Demon Slayer is, by far, the most popular anime of recent years. Its first anime season absolutely shocked fans all over the world, but that wasn't even remotely close to its best release. Demon Slayer: Mugen Train stole the show all over the world and became the highest-grossing movie at the Japanese Box Office.
Now, years later, Demon Slayer has released the first Infinity Castle movie, and it's even bigger than Mugen Train, becoming the biggest movie release in Japan, and also in the US for an international film. Regardless of whether the quality of Demon Slayer is better than other modern shonen like Jujutsu Kaisen or My Hero Academia, the fact is that it is more popular and far more successful, which makes it the King.
I will show no mercy to anyone who harms my family, no matter the odds. — Tanjuro Kamado
One Piece Dominates The Manga Department
Demon Slayer Can't Compete With One Piece
While Demon Slayer is the undisputed King of anime, it doesn't enjoy as much success in the manga sphere, because it isn't even remotely close to One Piece. One Piece is, by far, the most sold manga, and it's so massive that Oda is actually in the running for the best-selling authors in general. One Piece dominates when it comes to manga, and doing so consistently for decades is truly a stunning feat.
There is no denying the fact that overall quality-wise, One Piece is far better than Demon Slayer, as are some other modern shonen, but the immense popularity all over the world has made Demon Slayer a king in its own right.
One Piece Chapter 1165 will be out this week. As usual, One Piece is going to drop on Sunday. In Japan, One Piece drops at 12AM JST on Monday. However, the vast majority of international readers will see the chapter available on November 9. The official release date of One Piece Chapter 1165 is November 9, 2025. Fans can read the chapter for free on Manga Plus.
