The following article contains major spoilers for Demon Slayer, including the Mugen Train Arc and the Final Battle Arc.

The Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba anime series is reaching its climax, and fans are more excited than ever to watch the first movie in the Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle trilogy, which will cover the final arc of the story.

A fan favorite character in Demon Slayer is Kyojuro Rengoku, who died early in the story. Although he is no longer "physically" present, Rengoku lives on in the hearts of the remaining characters, and the upcoming trilogy will feature an intense and thrilling moment related to him — that's probably why they are re-screening Mugen Train and using Rengoku as a major character to promote the upcoming movie.

Rengoku's Death Shifted The Story

Kyojuro Rengoku, the Flame Hashira, served in this position after his father, Shinjuro, retired. Kyojuro trained with his father to become a Demon Slayer. Rengoku was a major supporting character earlier in the series, and he was very charismatic. For this reason, his death at the end of the Mugen Train Arc took many fans by surprise.

Life is a series of decisions. You never have unlimited options or unlimited time to think, but what you choose in that instant defines who you are.

— Kyojuro Rengoku

Rengoku died fighting the demon Akaza in The Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - The Movie: Mugen Train. Akaza appears after Enmu is defeated, when Tanjiro and Inosuke are tired and injured. Akaza tries to convince Rengoku to become a demon, but Rengoku fiercely declines. After an intense, action-packed fight, Rengoku is defeated, and Akaza retreats.

Tanjiro Will Finally Be Able to Avenge Him

Tanjiro tries to stop Akaza from fleeing, and Akaza replies that he is not running from battle but from the sun. Akaza then disappears, leaving the severely injured Rengoku with Tanjiro and Inosuke. Before dying, Rengoku is able to tell Tanjiro to move forward and "set his heart ablaze." This is one of the most touching moments in the movie, and perhaps in the entire story. This event also marks a turning point in Tanjiro's character arc; the main character of Demon Slayer wouldn't be the same if Rengoku had survived this battle.

In the Infinity Castle Arc, Tanjiro Kamado, who is now much stronger and more determined than ever, finally has his chance to avenge Rengoku's death and the other crimes commited by Akaza. Depending on the pacing, this fight could be the most thrilling battle in the first movie.

Tanjiro and Tomioka Vs. Akaza Is One of the Best Battles

In the Infinity Castle Arc, the Demon Slayer Corps storm into Muzan's lair, which is like a castle labyrinth floating in an extradimensional space (that's why it's called Infinity Castle). Although it is Muzan's lair, Nakime actually controls and owns the Infinity Castle. The Demon Slayers split up and engage in battle with different demons.

Tanjiro and Giyu Tomioka advance together as they search for Muzan and Tamayo. They encounter Akaza along the way. Tanjiro recognizes Akaza immediately, as he could never forget him, and Akaza is surprised to see "that weak Demon Slayer" once again. An intense battle then begins — this fight is not only about Demon Slayers versus a demon, but also a confrontation between Akaza's ideology that the weak are not worthy and Tomioka and Tanjiro's belief that the strong should aid the weak. This battle is full of amazing moments, such as Tomioka awakening his mark and many touching flashbacks. Ultimately, Tanjiro and Tomioka defeat Akaza, and both survive the battle.

When Will Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Be Released?

The first movie in the Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle trilogy will be released in Japan on July 18, 2025. It will later be released internationally, hitting US and Canadian theaters on September 12. No release windows have been announced for the other two movies, but rumors suggest they will be released in 2027 and 2029, respectively. In a recent interview, Crunchyroll President Rahul Purini discussed the movie and hinted that they already have an idea of when the other films will be out, which could mean that the rumors are accurate.

The trilogy movies are the final arc of the story and, for fans, if they want to finish it, they have to watch it. (...) The production teams have not announced the exact release date.

Given that Mugen Train broke records when it was released, production companies expect this trilogy to make history as unmatched box-office hits worldwide in the anime movie niche — and they may be right.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is available to stream on Crunchyroll and Netflix, subbed and dubbed in many languages.
