Demon Slayer is one of the most popular anime of the decade, taking viewers on a beautiful thrill ride filled with action and tragedy. Created by Koyoharu Gotouge, Demon Slayer tells a story of young Tanjiro Kamado whose life is changed forever after his family is slaughtered by a demon and his sister is turned into one. The story follows his journey as a Demon Slayer, driven by a mission to cure his sister, find the demon responsible for his family's death, and exact revenge.
As the series comes to a close, its final arc is adapted into the Infinity Castle Saga, a series of animated films that present Tanjiro's most formidable challenge yet. However, Tanjiro has shown that he can rise to the occasion more than adequately. Here are some of Tanjiro's most overpowered feats in the Demon Slayer anime.
Mixing Breathing Style Techniques
Tanjiro Has Begun Mixing Breathing Technique From Other Schools With His Own
Tanjiro's growth has been rising exponentially ever since his first encounter with Muzan. Completely dedicating himself to his training in hopes of saving his sister and avenging his family has fueled his determination and enabled him to accomplish unimaginable feats, considering his limited experience.
While pursuing the upper-ranked demon Hantengu, Tanjiro borrows from Thunder Breathing in hopes of obtaining enough speed to catch his target. The result is a basic Thunderclap and Flash dash that leads into a Sun Breathing Slash. So far, Tanjiro is the first and only Demon Slayer to mix breathing styles, which is quite an accomplishment.
Awakening His Demon Slayer Mark
Tanjiro Invokes The Legendary Demon Mark And Paves The Way For His Allies
The Demon Slayer Mark is a Sign that has not been seen among the ranks for multiple decades. Once a powerful tool that elevated the strength of the Demon Slayer corps to new heights, it was lost to history after constant battle.
Not seen since the Sengoku period, Tanjiro has harnessed the mark and dragged it into the present day in his fight against the upper-ranked demon Gyutaro. While hitting the bottom of his well of resolve, he surpasses his limits and dignifies the mark on his forehead, a trigger that will ignite the marks of the other Hashira and shift the war against the demons.
Sniffing Out Muzan
Tanjiro Finds The Demon King On His First Outing
Tanjiro hit the ground running once he was officially made a demon slayer. Showing sharpened skill and boundless potential, Tanjiro was sure to make a huge impact in protecting humanity from demon kind. However, it was never thought that on one of his first missions out, he would discover the Demon King, Muzan, in hiding among normal people. Recognizing the scent of the murderer of his family, Tanjiro ousts the sinister creature, completely catching him off guard. Unfortunately, Tanjiro was completely inept at dealing with such a powerful demon, and Muzan wound up escaping.
Catching Tomioka Off Guard
Tanjiro Almost Gets The Best Of A Seasoned Demon Slayer Hashira
The first episode of Demon Slayer was a rollercoaster ride of emotions. Tanjiro's brutal introduction to the cruel shadow world of demons vs humans ended with heartbreaking loss. While he frantically sought to save his sister, who had been turned into a demon, he instead ran into one of the strongest Demon Slayer Hashira, Tomioka. Tanjiro could tell from a glance that he was outmatched in speed, strength, and skill, which led him to use his mind instead. In a masterful bluff, Tanjiro charged forward, sacrificing himself to create a single opening that would change his life forever.
Tanjiro Completing His Training Faster Than Everyone Else
Tanjiro Surpasses All Of His Peers And Finishes His Training
While the Hashira Training arc was not the most action-packed of the Demon Slayer seasons, it was one of the best displays of just how far Tanjiro has come since his journey began. After multiple attacks on the Demon Slayer Corps and the loss of two Hashira, the entire regiment underwent rigorous training under the guidance of each Hashira. The majority of warriors couldn't take the grueling experience and crumbled underneath the expectations of the Hashira. However, Tanjiro overcame challenge after challenge, meeting every obstacle head-on and earning the respect of his peers, inspiring them in the process.
Bringing Shinazugawa To His Knees With A Headbutt
Tanjiro Shows No Fear When Stepping Up To A Hashira
The first introduction to the Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps was a daunting sequence that offered a glimpse into the eccentric nature of those who rise through the ranks and lead the charge against demonkind. One of the vital matters presented was whether Nezuko's existence should be allowed to continue.
Shinazugawa, the Wind Breathing Hashira, took it upon himself to put Nezuko under a cruel exam, which brought the rage of a proper older brother down on top of him. The Hashira are great warriors who exchange blows with some of the strongest demons, but Tanjiro was able to bring Shinaguzawa to his knees with a single headbutt.
Using Sun Breathing On Daki
Tanjiro Flows Into A Calm Rage And Taps Into A Legendary Breathing Style
The Entertainment District of Demon Slayer season two was an incredible experience from start to finish. Tanjiro, Zinetsu, Inosuke, and the Sound Hashira Tengen stormed the district to find the missing wives of Tengen and discover the demon hiding among the crowd.
What erupted was a violent and destructive series of battles that leveled the entire prefecture. One of which was when Tanjiro found himself face-to-face with Daki early on in the season. Daki's ruthless attitude and disregard for human life pushed Tanjiro over the edge and caused him to flood his body with the Hino Kami Kagura style at a level he had never displayed before, completely overwhelming an upper-rank demon.
Slicing off Gyutaro's Head
Tanjiro Takes The Head Of An Upper-Rank Demon
The finale of the Entertainment District arc in season 2 of Demon Slayer blew away fans' expectations after the tensions had continued to rise, with the ending for the characters being left uncertain as they were overwhelmed by Gyutaro and his sister Daki. In a last-ditch effort, Tengen and Tanjiro joined forces to take on Gyutaro, giving it everything they had to bring him down. In a flashy and fiery display, they were able to overwhelm the demon, but it was Tanjiro who rose to the occasion and severed the demon's head. By harnessing the power of the Demon Mark, Tanjiro surpassed his limits and slew his first upper rank.
