Akaza Returns is the first chapter in the Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle trilogy. Japanese fans are lucky to witness the widely anticipated movie before the rest of the world, which makes the waiting game for international fans more unbearable with each passing week. But speaking of luck, one unexpected character fighting in the Infinity Castle is so lucky they survived the deadly night. It’s almost as if their guardian angel worked all night long just to ensure they came out alive.

Demon Slayer fans expect lives to be lost in the Infinity Castle arc. With the clash between the demon slayers and the upper moons, blood will definitely spill. Once they enter the deadly fortress, no one is guaranteed safe, not even Tanjiro, the Hashira, or the upper moon demons. However, there are some characters, regardless of their power level, who can unexpectedly survive and live to see another day.

Murata Might Be the Luckiest Demon Slayer

Luck and timing play significant roles in Murata's survivability in Infinity Castle.
Murata is an absurdly lucky demon slayer with strong plot armor.

Being a talented and highly capable demon slayer has its pros and cons. Because of their unbelievable strength, they usually get deadly assignments where they must defeat a member of the 12 Kizuki. Facing these demons is not a walk in the park, as they could lose their lives, or if they get lucky, their arms or legs. On the contrary, those demon slayers who are not as powerful as the Hashira, or the main trio, either die early or survive in the most unexpected ways.

Murata, whose last name remains unknown, might be the perfect example of a demon slayer who possesses so much luck that he always survives the most dangerous encounters in the series. Even in the Infinity Castle story arc, Murata will manage to stay alive, somehow avoiding a deadly encounter with the upper moons. Although he is a mid-fighter at best and has no flashy breathing techniques, he remains weirdly indestructible in Demon Slayer.

Make no mistake, though, Murata will be useful in the Infinity Castle arc. As revealed in the Demon Slayer manga, he will provide support and backup to the main trio, including Kanao and Yushiro, when necessary. Most importantly, he will not end up as a liability, someone who needs saving from the main characters. He’s not the most powerful swordsman out there, but he has the fighting spirit to hold his own and not become a burden to others.

Murata Had Near-Death Encounters Before Infinity Castle

Murata’s demon-slaying career often put him in the most dangerous situations. Fans know how a demon slayer’s life is always on the line whenever they fight, as they lack the ability to regenerate, unlike their enemies. Even so, Murata never left the Demon Slayer Corps, despite witnessing the deaths of his comrades over and over again. Instead of quitting, he remains part of the organization until he sees the demon king Muzan Kibutsuji’s death with his own eyes.

From day one, Murata had near-death encounters in Demon Slayer. In the Final Selection, he only managed to stay alive just because the late Sabito nearly killed all the demons in the mountains. In the Mount Natagumo arc, Murata not only avoided the demon slayer massacre, but also the Insect Hashira Shinobu Kocho saved his life from the Spider Demon (daughter) at the very last minute.

From this point forward, Murata would continue to survive despite being a mid-level fighter at best. While fans know Murata’s survivability also depends on his importance to the plot, the fact that he remains alive when his comrades fall one after another is still a remarkable stroke of luck for a series that’s known for its brutal deaths. As a result, fans love to make fun of him, using his images in memes, highlighting his strong plot armor.

Other Than Murata, Who Will Survive the Infinity Castle Arc?

Who Will Come Out of the Infinity Castle Alive?

Murata will not be the only demon slayer who will live to see another day after the Infinity Castle arc. The main trio, as well as Kanao, will come out of the fortress alive, despite their serious injuries. The remaining Hashira who will continue the fight against Muzan on the surface include Obanai, Sanemi, Giyu, Gyomei, and Mitsuri. Yushiro will also continue supporting the demon slayers, even after Tamayo’s demise.

None of these living characters will stop fighting as long as Muzan is still alive. However, the upper moons will cease to exist, as Akaza, Kokushibo, Doma, Nakime, and Kaigaku will lose their lives. If the Infinity Castle movies adapt the Sunrise Countdown Arc, more Hashira will meet their end in the most heartbreaking and gut-wrenching scenes. Unfortunately for these dead Demon Slayer characters, the indestructible Murata will start to live a more peaceful and happy life.
